History

  • A.B. Barret and Charles Roberson were on their way to a gospel meeting when Barret first said to Roberson, "Let's build a school in West Texas." 
  • Abilene Christian College became a University in 1976.

Education

  • Abilene Christian University includes the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Biblical Studies, Business Administration, Education and Human Services, Graduate and Professional Studies, and Honors; the Graduate School of Theology; and the schools of Information Technology and Computing, Nursing, and Social Work. ACU is affiliated with the Churches of Christ and is one of the largest private universities in the Southwest.
  • Students may choose from 70 baccalaureate majors that include more than 135 areas of study, 33 master’s degree programs and three doctoral programs.

Research

ACU is a university where scholarly activity and innovation are valued and encouraged. Allowing our students to participate in undergraduate research engages their intellectual curiosity, satisfies their thirst for discovery, and gives them an outlet for their creativity.

Career

  • Of May 2018 graduates, 95 percent were employed or enrolled in graduate or professional school within six months. Specific programs saw even higher employment success at 100 percent, such as teacher education, marketing and chemistry. ACU graduates who apply to medical, dental and veterinary schools have been accepted at twice the national average for the past 10 years.

As a freshman and sophomore, you’ll call one of our residence halls home, and upperclassmen may live in campus apartments. Residence halls and apartments are equipped with modern amenities (laundry, kitchens) and offer common spaces for socializing and studying.

Library services

The Brown Library is the university’s hub for Abilene Christian University  academic life, creative spaces, devoted experts, and critical tools and ideas that shape the Abilene Christian University community for the positive change we want to see in the world. 

ICT services

  • There are many computers available to students to use in the Library on the main floor, in the Learning Commons. Students can log into these Mac and Windows computers using their Abilene Christian University credentials. Laptops are available for students to check out for use in the library.
  • There are several computer labs on campus, managed by the various departments. 

Medical services

The Royce and Pam Money Student Recreation and Wellness Center is a focal point on campus. Designed to encourage wellness of the whole individual – body, mind and spirit – it includes the Weber Medical and Counseling Care Center and is the home of a dynamic intramural program with championship and recreational leagues for students of all interests and abilities.

Abilene Christian University is a safe, welcoming residential campus community offering amenities you’d expect at your home-away-from-home: quality dining options, access to fitness and wellness facilities, dry-cleaning services, countless activities to keep you busy after class, and lots of spaces to study and gather with friends.

The Abilene Christian University Police Department is here to serve the needs of our campus community 24/7, from bike and foot patrols to late-night safety escorts.

Sports facilities

NCAA Division I, Southland Conference. Football (FCS), women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, baseball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s softball and women’s beach volleyball. Only four colleges and universities – including UCLA, Stanford and USC – have won more NCAA national team championships than the Wildcats.

Great learning but needs better support

I had a generally positive study experience I liked the variety of subjects and the opportunity to learn new skills especially when lessons were clear and engaging However some topics could be explained better and more practical activities would improve understanding Overall it was a good experience with a few areas that could be improved
