Abilene Christian University

History

  • A.B. Barret and Charles Roberson were on their way to a gospel meeting when Barret first said to Roberson, "Let's build a school in West Texas."
  • Abilene Christian College became a University in 1976.

Education

  • Abilene Christian University includes the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Biblical Studies, Business Administration, Education and Human Services, Graduate and Professional Studies, and Honors; the Graduate School of Theology; and the schools of Information Technology and Computing, Nursing, and Social Work. ACU is affiliated with the Churches of Christ and is one of the largest private universities in the Southwest.
  • Students may choose from 70 baccalaureate majors that include more than 135 areas of study, 33 master’s degree programs and three doctoral programs.

Research

ACU is a university where scholarly activity and innovation are valued and encouraged. Allowing our students to participate in undergraduate research engages their intellectual curiosity, satisfies their thirst for discovery, and gives them an outlet for their creativity.

Career

  • Of May 2018 graduates, 95 percent were employed or enrolled in graduate or professional school within six months. Specific programs saw even higher employment success at 100 percent, such as teacher education, marketing and chemistry. ACU graduates who apply to medical, dental and veterinary schools have been accepted at twice the national average for the past 10 years.
  • Our graduates are practicing Christians who excel in their careers. An ACU education is about discovering how your life and work respond to God’s call.
