Since its founding in 1831, NYU has been an innovator in higher education, reaching out to an emerging middle class, embracing an urban identity and professional focus, and promoting a global vision that informs its 20 schools and colleges.
Founded in 1831 by a farsighted group of prominent New Yorkers, the “University of the City of New-York” (as NYU was originally known) was envisioned from the start as something new: an academic institution metropolitan in character, democratic in spirit, and responsive to the demands of a bustling commercial culture.
Education
NYU’s leadership team is dedicated to fulfilling the University’s educational mission and research enterprise, to advancing a vision for the University’s future, and to sustaining its tradition of academic excellence.
Research
The modern research university has a dual mission: to educate its students, and to discover new knowledge through scholarship. These two missions enhance and inform one another: students at a research university in many instances are taught by the discoverers of the information being discussed in the course, and the classroom's free exchange of ideas can help sharpen research.
The quality of the research enterprise is what truly distinguishes a great university, permitting it to draw in the most talented scholars and the top students. NYU’s faculty are at the forefront of their scholarly disciplines, and their research helps shape the understanding of an enormous range of academic fields.
Career
NYU has emerged as a worldwide institution for learning, teaching, researching, building knowledge, and inventing new ways to meet humanity’s challenges. Explore our job opportunities below and join a diverse and talented faculty and staff who work to create intellectually stimulating, culturally vibrant, safe, innovative, welcoming, inclusive experiences at campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai, as well as 11 global academic centers.

My review
Stepping into New York University (NYU) isnt just attending a college; its signing a four-year lease on the soul of Manhattan. There are no gates hereWashington Square Park is your quad, and the subway is your school bus. Its a place where the "campus" is a heartbeat, and the energy is perpetually set to high-voltage.

Study life
Student life is a kaleidoscope of high-speed ambition. Youll find students debating ethics over late-night pizza or rehearsing scenes in the hallways of Tisch. With over 300 clubsfrom high-stakes Mock Trial to niche arts collectivesthere is a tribe for every interest. The vibe is independent, stylish, and perpetually caffeinated. Its a "sink or swim" environment that builds incredible resilience. At NYU, you don't just graduate with a prestigious degree; you leave with the street smarts and professional network of a lifelong New Yorker. It is a wild, beautiful, and relentless journey that transforms students into global citizens before they even flip their tassels.
The Global Student Satisfaction Awards empower students across the globe to determine the best universities of 2025. Universities with a score above 4.0 (out of 5) in any of the 7 award categories, receive Badges of Excellence. Congratulations!
