The JCU Townsville, Douglas campus has been named Bebegu Yumba, which means “Place of Learning” in the Birri-Gubba language.
JCU Townsville, Bebegu Yumba campus is located in the Townsville Tropical Intelligence and Health Precinct (TropiQ) in the suburb of Douglas. Set in a 386-hectare natural bush and parkland setting, 13 kilometres (8 miles) from the Townsville CBD, the campus houses around 1,400 students in colleges and halls of residence. Over 13,000 students are part of the JCU Townsville community, including approximately 1,500 international students.
The JCUSA Fitness is a health and recreational environment that helps bring your fitness ambitions to life. More than just a gym, it is a place where community interaction is encouraged with all our facilities.

The Student Association has a number of recognised Clubs & Societies that include sporting, recreational and faculty groups.
Clubs & Societies play an active role in the University community by providing students the opportunity to meet people with common interests and to pursue those interests.
The Student Association offers financial and administrative support to these organisations and students are encouraged to join existing clubs or start their own. If you require more information on the operation of a club please contact the Townsville Campus Officer or Cairns Campus Officer.

I've been studying at James Cook University for my postgraduate degree through their Cloud Campus. Overall, I've found it to be a well-equipped and accessible university with a lot to offer. However, I do wish all classes were recorded for cloud-based students, and that there was better access to essential study tools such as SPSS for research purposes.
The lecturers are usually responsive, but some may seem slightly under-qualified, especially when it comes to marking. It is important to maintain communication with them to make sure you know what they want from you- as each lecturer/tutor has different standards. Though, that can be tough because some do not respond to their emails.
James Cook University is an exceptional institution that offers a transformative educational experience.
