On October 1, 1872, Addison “Add” Caldwell walked 26 miles from Craig County to enroll as the first student at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. Ever since then, Virginia Tech has been fulfilling its role as a leading land-grant university. The 47 on-campus residence halls are home to about 9,300 students and are kept safe, clean, and well-maintained by Virginia Tech’s Housing and Residence Life.

Schiffert Health Center is Virginia Tech's on-campus health care center. Our clinical staff of 13 doctors, nurse practitioners, and physicians assistants administer care for a wide range of medical concerns.
Virginia Tech’s main campus in Blacksburg has 2,600 acres, 213 buildings, an airport, Lane Stadium, Cassell Coliseum, the Moss Arts Center, and an adjacent research park.

Sport club teams represent Virginia Tech and play against other colleges and universities, but are not part of the university's NCAA athletics program. Sport clubs are supported by Recreational Sports, but each team is run by a set of officers.
Most sport club teams hold tryouts (some prior to the start of school) so it is important to get in touch with a club officer to find out details. However, some sport clubs require no prior skill at the sport – they'll teach you what you need to know! You can find something new to try.

It is hard to gauge how the campus is like during this pandemic, but so far I have been able to have a good experience. I have been able to easily connect with my classes as well as clubs online. In addition, there are multiple student groups whom are very outgoing and welcoming to freshmen such as myself.
Virginia Tech (VT) has a quaint campus with a friendly social scene, tons of clubs (including Greek life) and jobs and such to choose from. You get a small-town feel while attending a big school which is quite nice. There are a variety of events including sports, we have quite a Football and Basketball presence although our other teams also perform well. There has never been enough parking, though, and some students can feel sequestered from more active locations (the nearest city, Roanoke, is a 45-minute drive away -- and who knows how long by bus).
Virginia Tech is an amazing school with some minor flaws. I'm part of the engineering program and Virginia Tech is one of the best schools for it. The staff, especially in engineering, are great. The math department is a little shaky and you don't get to see who your professor is for some classes when selecting classes. The food is great and is consistently ranked among the top in the country. The drainage system around campus is pretty bad, so when it rains, there can be a lot of flooding. Blacksburg itself is nice. There isn't much besides the school, however, there are a lot of apartment complex's around it that are nice as well as great places to eat.
