History
Founded in 1868, Oregon State is the state’s Land Grant university and is one of only two universities in the U.S. to have Sea Grant, Space Grant and Sun Grant designations. Oregon State is also the only university in Oregon to hold both the Carnegie Foundation's top designation for research institutions and its prestigious Community Engagement classification.
Education
The mission of the Office of Institutional Diversity is to design, plan, lead and implement, in collaboration with university partners, institutional change actions, initiatives and communications to advance diversity, equity and inclusion throughout all facets of Oregon State University. The work of the office advances more rapid progress toward Oregon State’s highest aspirations for social justice within the university community.
Research
Oregon State University earned $441 million in external research funding in 2017, a third consecutive year of record-breaking growth. Oregon State is one of only two land, sea, space and sun grant institutions in the U.S. and is the only university in Oregon to have earned both Carnegie Classifications for Highest Research Activity and Community Engagement. It is the state’s largest comprehensive public university, preeminent for both scholarly achievement and the direct impact of applied development, fulfilling the land-grant mission to serve the public good.
