History
Founded in Shanghai in 1896 as the Nanyang Public College, Xi'an Jiaotong University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in China.
Education
Today's Xi'an Jiaotong University is a comprehensive research-oriented university with its focus on science and engineering. Its programs cover the fields of science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature and arts, law, philosophy, and education. It consists of 17 schools, offering 74 undergraduate programs, 199 master programs, and 114 doctoral programs.
Housing services
On Yanta campus are four dormitory buildings,where Medicine majors and Finance majors live. There are two types ofdormitories, single room and double room. Both are appropriately laid outand the building is equipped with necessary electric appliances, studying room, communal kitchen, canteen and laundryroom. The dormitory buildings are close to the campus canteen, basketballcourt, playground, teaching buildings and library. Buses and restaurants whichcan satisfy the dietary needs of different foreign students are available inthe neighborhood.
Library services
The Xi’an Jiaotong University Library originates from Nanyang Public School Library, which was set up in Shanghai in 1896. In October 1919, the main library building was completed and was named as the Shanghai Industrial Specialized School Library of Communication Ministry, and renamed as the Jiaotong University Library in 1921. In 1956, Jiaotong University moved its campus to Xi’an with most of the faculty and 92% books of the library.
Campus life
Located in Xi’an of Shaanxi province, XJTU includes threecampuses, Xingqing campus, Yanta campus and Qujiang campus, covering an area of1989400 square kilometers and gross floor area of 2038500 square kilometers.Foreign students mainly live in Xingqing and Yanta campus.
We have also attained accreditation from the Higher Education Academy (HEA), the Royal Society of Biology (RSB), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
