About

History

Founded in 1847, it is the state's oldest institution of higher education and is located alongside the picturesque Iowa River in Iowa City. A member of the Association of American Universities since 1909 and the Big Ten Conference since 1899, the UI is home to one of the largest and most acclaimed medical centers in the country, as well as the famous Iowa Writers' Workshop.

Research

Our vision is a world free from MND. The MND Association funds and promotes research that leads us to new understanding and treatments, and brings us closer to a cure for MND.

The Pomerantz Career Center Peer Advisor Program serves as a way for UI students to receive high-quality career advice from their peers in a timely manner.

Services

Student services

The Office of Student Services serves as the College of Education central records office and in that role provide support that spans the life of a student while in our programs and after graduation.

The office assists faculty, staff, students and the general public in a wide range of areas. These include admissions, field experiences, teacher licensure, graduate examinations, and post-graduation reporting. In connection with these services the office serves as liaison with entities within the University, school districts, and licensure staff both in state and out-of-state.

Housing services

Library services

The Iowa Digital Library features more than a million digital objects created from the holdings of the University of Iowa Libraries and its campus partners. Included are illuminated manuscripts, historic maps, fine art, historic newspapers, scholarly works, and more. Digital collections are coordinated by the Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio.

Medical services

One of the nation’s leading academic medical centers—and the only comprehensive academic medical center in Iowa. In its 2019 rankings of “Best Employers for Diversity,” Forbes ranked UI Health Care No. 24 overall among 500 large employers nationwide and No. 2 in its Healthcare & Social category.

Visiting a campus is the best way to make an informed college choice, so we make it easy for you to meet the people at Iowa, ask questions, and take look around.We offer a variety of program options; explore them and register soon, as space may be limited for some events.

Sports facilities

Recreational Services operates out of ten facilities located throughout the campus with a range of operating hours and services. In total, we have four indoor facilities with fitness rooms, multiple basketball/volleyball courts, three indoor pools, sixteen racquetball/squash courts, various group fitness studios, two indoor turf fields, one cycling studios and eight indoor tennis courts.

Student clubs

Hundreds of student organizations exist on the University of Iowa campus to bring students together for a variety of things, including country and culture-specific groups.
