UCW Vancouver was founded in 2004 by Dr. David Strong, an accomplished academic and distinguished scientist who served as President of the University of Victoria for more than a decade. The vision was to create an independent, accessible university with a practical focus and an emphasis on teaching excellence. 

UCW Vancouver is a business-oriented, teaching-intensive university. 


University Canada West offers the following programs:

UCW is a teaching intensive university rather than researched based. However, faculty still contribute to academic journals and other academia.

Student services

New students will get to know the Student Services department quickly during Orientation. 

As well as peer and faculty support, through Student Services, student can access the following:

  • Plan social/volunteer/cultural/informative events for students like Canada Day, Grouse Mountain, Study Permit, ice skating, bowling, clean-up day 
  • Academic advising for students’ degree pathway
  • Advise students about University rules, regulations and policies
  • Course registration for students and assist with withdrawal requests
  • Advise students on any inquiries they have about the University or Vancouver
  • Offer students volunteering opportunities to develop and gain experience through UCW Ambassador Program and our Student Orientation  

Library services

  • UCW Vancouver’s Library Portal connects users to over 60,000 full text scholarly journals, periodicals and trade publications, close to 25,000 business case studies, over 180,000 e-books including company profiles, economic country reports and SWOT analyses.

  • The university is committed to providing students with the highest level of access to library and learning resources possible. 

ICT services

UCW Vancouver offers free wifi to students, as well as the free use of two computer labs. The UCW students can sign out ipads from the library for school or personal use.

UCW Vancouver has a first aid station on campus, but medical facilities are located off campus
