Western Kentucky University (WKU) prepares students of all backgrounds to be productive, engaged, and socially responsible citizen-leaders of a global society. History

On March 21, 1906, the Kentucky General Assembly approved legislation to establish two teacher training institutions, or "normal schools," in the state.The new state-supported school took over the building and student body of the privately owned Southern Normal School. 

Education

WKU is home to many highly ranked and nationally-recognized academic programs such as Journalism and Broadcasting, Education, Engineering, Business and our award winning speech and debate team. More than 20,000 students grace our campuses in Bowling Green, Glasgow, Owensboro and the Elizabethtown area. We also send students each semester to Harlaxton College in Grantham, England and other students circumnavigate the globe with the Semester at Sea program just to name a few.

The WKU Center for Research and Development (CRD) is uniquely positioned to dramatically enhance economic development initiatives. From starting a business, providing business space, to providing lab services to help in business growth, the staff at the CRD is here for you!  

Career

The mission of the Center for Career and Professional Development is to assist students and alumni in identifying and reaching their career and employment goals, to help employers access an educated and highly trained workforce, and to support faculty and staff in providing opportunities to increase student learning and skill development. 

Student services

The International Enrollment Management team serves the international student and scholar population at Western Kentucky University. 

We host a vibrant community of over 1300 international students from more than 70 countries and growing. We are an academically-challenging, beautiful, safe and friendly place where professors and professional staff will help you reach your full potential.

We provide specialized support services to WKU's international students, scholars and their dependents, including immigration advising and guidance, programs and events, cultural adjustment, resources and so much more.

Housing services

WKU residence halls are more than just a place to live! Each hall has been fully renovated and features moveable furniture, high-speed internet access, cable TV, floor kitchens, study and TV lounges, vending machines, laundry facilities, community rooms, and resident mailboxes.  

Library services

The Department of Library Public Services at Western Kentucky University has as its primary goal the collection, preservation and provision of access to information resources which support the instructional, research, and public service programs of the University.  

ICT services

The Information Technology Helpdesk serves as a single point of contact for technology support and can be reached in a variety of ways.  

Medical services

State-of-the-art facility and board certified physicians are here to support your well being. Health issues are probably not your first priority as you make the transition to WKU. However, there are some things we recommend you consider before arriving on campus - especially if you are new to WKU. 

Campus life

Maintaining a campus of distinctive history and character, WKU sustains a student population of increasing quality. It fulfills its responsibility for access through its main and regional campuses, and through extensive distance learning opportunities. WKU recognizes that its mission continues to evolve in response to regional, national, and global changes, and the need for lifelong learning. 

Sports facilities

Sport Clubs are a proud component of the WKU Intramural Recreational Sports Department. All Sport Clubs are designed to bring together students, faculty, and/or staff with similar sporting and recreational interests. Unlike varsity sports, sport clubs are run by the students for the students with a NO TRY-OUT policy. Faculty and staff are both allowed and encouraged to participate as players, advisers, and coaches however, the administrative duties of the club always remain in the hands of the students!

The Department of Student Activities works to provide co-curricular activities for those who want to become involved at Western Kentucky University.  Whether it is a student organization, student government leadership programs, campus wide programming, Downing Student Union (DSU) activities, or volunteerism programs, there is something for each student who wants to become involved.
