Addis Ababa University (AAU), which was established in 1950 as the University College of Addis Ababa (UCAA), is the oldest and the largest higher learning and research institution in Ethiopia. Since its inception, the University has been the leading center in teaching-learning, research and community services.
At present the University has 10 colleges, 4 institutes that run both teaching and research, and 6 research institutes that predominantly conduct research. Within these academic units, there are 55 departments, 12 centers, 12 schools, and 2 teaching hospitals.
Taking into account the reform in the University, coupled with the responsibility entrusted to the institution by the Government, AAU has recently welcomed a new vision of becoming a pre-eminent research university in Africa. As a result, research has been given a new organizational platform under a new direction and new set of policy framework. The change at AAU underscores that research should proactively respond to the national demand of generating and disseminating new knowledge and technology, strengthening and developing the capacity of students in contemporary science and technology.
The main university library is the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library, which was opened in August 1969. It is located on the Main Campus (at Sidist Kilo). It primarily holds library materials on humanities and social sciences and serves almost all the University community and registered external users.
The mission of the ICT Directorate is to play a major enabling role in strengthening the operational missions of the University, namely learning-teaching, research and innovation, community engagements, institutional development and administrations.

My study experience in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Addis Ababa University has been challenging, exciting, and very meaningful. What I like most about the field is that it is both analytical and practical, and it plays a fundamental role in the economy of a country. It is not only about what we learn in the classroom, but also about how that knowledge works in the real world. One thing I have really valued is the opportunity to take leadership beyond the classroom. As the Founder and President of The Logistics Hub Student Club at AAU, I have led student initiatives focused on logistics awareness, young professional empowerment, knowledge sharing, and connecting students with industry. This experience has probably been one of the best parts of my university journey because it has allowed me to learn not only as a student, but also as a leader. I believe there is still room to strengthen the connection between classroom learning and industry practice. Theory and practice need to go hand in hand. More industry visits, practical projects, internships, case studies, and direct engagement with professionals would help students understand how the concepts they learn are actually applied. Overall, my study experience has given me a strong academic foundation while also encouraging me to become more active in solving logistics-related challenges and creating opportunities for young logistics professionals. I am now interested in exploring global logistics further and understanding how logistics systems and practices differ across countries. For me, university has been more than just earning a degree. It has been a journey of learning, leadership, service, and preparing myself to contribute to the future of logistics.
