We can trace our roots back to the Industrial Revolution. In 1992, we became one of the UK’s new universities, taking our name from one of Liverpool’s great entrepreneurs and philanthropists, Sir John Moores. Our current incarnation as a modern civic university demonstrates that we haven’t lost the pioneering zeal of our founding fathers and like them, we still believe that ‘knowledge is power’.

LJMU students are entitled to free off-peak access to Lifestyles Fitness Centres across Merseyside*, with membership covering a host of activities and facilities.
*The University has secured a contract with Liverpool City Council’s Lifestyles Fitness Centres until August 2021.
From sports teams to societies, there are over 100 student groups to choose from, run by Liverpool John Moores University Students’ Union (JMSU). Joining a student group helps students to branch out, meet new people and get the most out of their time at the University.

I studied for an MSc in psychology. Liverpool John Moores University has an excellent programme that covers the major aspects of the subject comprehensively. The most interesting subject in the programme is positive pscyhology, which I find to be very practical. I am still applying what I learned to my work and life. Although the programme was demanding, requiring typically 20-40 hours every week for reading and preparing the assignments, it had built a strong foundation to allow me to cope with my doctoral study without much difficulty.
i really like my university - particularly the lecturer in year one for foundations of marketing and branding. it is a really fun course and i personally think i made the right decision coming here. being able to live in the venter of a great city is certainly a bonus too.
The mathematics course is intense. The first year is mainly about finding your feet and exploring which direction you would like to explore fully. They offer an expansion into finance and statistical analysis or continue into research and foundational mathematics so the choices are boundless. The university is spread out around the city so you can enjoy the various and many wonders of Liverpool while you study and the library is amongst the best in the country for quiet study and separate work spaces.
