Institute of Technology Bandung

Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) or Bandung Insitute of Technology or Institute of technology Bandung, was founded on March 2, 1959. The present ITB main campus is the site of earlier engineering schools in Indonesia. Although these institutions of higher learning had their own individual characteristics and missions, they left influence on developments leading to the establishment of ITB.

History

Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) or Bandung Insitute of Technology or Institute of technology Bandung, was founded on March 2, 1959. In 1959, the present lnstitut Teknologi Bandung was founded by the Indonesian government as an institution of higher learning of science, technology, and fine arts, with a mission of education, research, and service to the community.

Education

ITB Education System consists of three stages or strata, namely:

  • Bachelor or Strata-1 (S1) designed completed in four years with a Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Management.
  • Masters or Strata-2 (S2) that is designed to complete in 2 years with a degree of Master of Engineering, Master of Science in Management, Master of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Design, Master of Defence Studies, Master of Business Administration, Master in Teaching Mathematics, Master in Teaching Physics, Master of Teaching Chemistry and Master of Water Resources Management.
  • Doctoral or Strata-3 (S3) designed completed in 3 years with a PhD.

Research

Journal of ICT Research and Applications welcomes full research articles in the area of Information and Communication Technology from the following subject areas: Information Theory, Signal Processing, Electronics, Computer Network, Telecommunication, Wireless & Mobile Computing, Internet Technology, Multimedia, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information System and Knowledge Management.

Career

  • Work visa: During study foreign students are not allowed to work.
  • Employment upon graduation: There is no such issue of visa after graduation like USA or Japan. But like other foreigners, recently graduated students can get working visa if he gets an offer letter from a company in Indonesia. Companies in Indonesia have to get approval from government to recruit international students.
  • Work environment: As Indonesians have a very strong group-oriented mentality, they usually work better when given a team goal rather an individual target. Subordinates are expected to follow instructions and not to argue with their superiors, no matter how flawed the instructions are.

Student services

This center is located at the Campus Centre – not far from the main gate. Visitors can get information regarding ITB in general and its campus at the Rotunda and ITB Hall of Famebuilding.

Housing services

University dormitories are available but as there is always a high demand, there is a possibility of not being able to secure on-campus accommodation. However, universities will have staff to assist students on finding alternative accommodation.Wide ranges of apartments can be found from database of reputable agency or brokers and you can directly visit the apartment complexes. Management office staff of apartments will be happy to show you the available apartments. Some of them can speak English too.

Library services

For implementation of academic and research activities there are seven academic support facilities, namely, the Central Library (with approximately 150,000 books and 1000 journal titles) on campus.

ICT services

All buildings in campus ITB are connected to fiber optic network and internet. There is a computing center for Common Preparatory Level students with 140 computers.

Medical services

The Family Health Center gives services: general clinic, dental clinic, Family Planning, ECG, internist, oculists, pediatrician, laboratory, and first aids. This clinic is located outside the campus, about 100 m from the campus.

Campus life

Bandung, with a population of approximately one and a half million, lies in the mountainous area of West Java, at an altitude of 770 meters. The ITB main campus, to the north of the town centre, and its other campuses, cover a total area of 770,000 square meters.

Sports facilities

The Sport Center has an Olympic-size swimming pool, a children swimming pool, a diving pool, a football field, basketball fields, volleyball fields, tennis courts, a jogging track and a fitness centre. The facilities are mostly used for sport courses in the Common Preparatory Level. They are also used for other activities such as football courses, tennis courses, jogging clubs, swimming courses, and other programs.

As of 2020, ITB had thirteen undergraduate study programs been internationally accredited from an independent U.S.-based accrediting institution, Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
