History
The University of Dayton's history is one of perseverance, tenacity, ingenuity and transformation. The school began with an act of faith more than 170 years ago.
Today, the University of Dayton is recognized as a top-tier national research university rooted in the Catholic tradition.Education
Across all of our more than 80 undergraduate and 50 graduate and doctoral programs, our academics are challenging. Not just for the sake of it, but because there are real challenges in the world that need to be met. That way, when graduation arrives, you won't be entering the real world for the first time. You'll already be part of it, fully prepared for your career — and for life.
Research
From advocating for human rights to sending aircraft higher and farther, UD is where the future takes form.
Whether we're creating a computer chip that can teach itself or conducting research that supports NASA's Perseverance rover, we work in the space between inspiration and impact — and bring great ideas to life.
Here, it's about more than innovation for the sake of discovery. It's about developing solutions to help others. By bringing together graduate and undergraduate students with our renowned faculty and researchers, we continue to pave the way to a better world.Career
Founded in 1850, the University of Dayton is a top-tier Catholic, Marianist research university. Our spirit ignites a boundless curiosity that drives us to search for truth. It pushes us to go beyond the easy answers and to use our knowledge to make an impact.
We are builders of community and invite people with diverse talents, interests and backgrounds to enrich and advance our common mission. Together, we can create a brighter tomorrow.

Housing services
- More than 85 percent of our students live on campus and in the student neighborhood — a one-of-a-kind community of students living side by side in porch-clad houses.
- All first-year undergraduate students belong to a learning-living community, which offers a chance to engage in shared classes and activities with your hallmates. Later, you'll move to an apartment, suite or house in the student neighborhood. We also offer special housing for law, graduate and international students.
- And with its vast dining options and top-notch facilities, the University has received more than eight national awards for excellence in college dining since 2010.
