University of Verona

History

In the late Middle Ages, with the papal bull of 1339, Verona was officially conferred the status of studium generale by Pope Benedict XII, with three branches: Law, Medicine and Art. However, it was only in the late 1950s that Verona properly established its own university.

Education

The University of Verona offers a range of degree programmes in different disciplines, including Economics, Law, Arts and Humanities, Communication, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Education, Philosophy, Social Science, Medicine, Exercise Science, Mathematics, Biotechnology and Computer Science.

There are over 70 programmes, comprising various undergraduate and postgraduate degrees held at different campuses to best serve the community's needs. The programmes are becoming increasingly international, with individual modules, and even some entire courses, taught in other languages.

Research

The University of Verona's research strengths are rooted in its active involvement in both pure and applied cutting-edge academic research, as well as in the diversity of the disciplines covered. The fundamental structures for academic research are the university departments. There are four macro-discipline areas that oversee three departments in Arts and Humanities, three departments in Law and Economics, four departments in Life and Health Sciences, and two departments in Natural Sciences and Engineering.

Career

UNIVR supports collaborations with companies by making university resources such as new technologies, research staff and facilities available for use in projects. We connect job seekers and job offers, putting companies in touch with young graduates through internships, work placements and graduate jobs.

Student services

Fees, concessions, benefits; office administration services from enrolment to graduation. Enrolled students can access all services from the intranet, MyUnivr.

Housing services

Italian Universities do not generally have a campus. International students can find an accommodation in Verona at the student residences or in private flats to be shared with other students.

Library services

The Arturo Frinzi library is housed in a former church built in 1596, dedicated to San Francesco di Paola. It was transferred to the state and in 1987 became central library of the Humanities, Economics and Law departments. The library is dedicated to Arturo Frinzi, an illustrious figure on the Veronese economic and political scene who donated his own volumes to build the University of Verona.

Campus life

The University of Verona is present throughout the province of Verona and beyond. It has several campuses in the city and has contributed significantly to urban renewal in the area. Constantly aware of the need for suitable spaces to study, work and conduct research, the university offers new, comfortable and prestigious venues to the academic community and local citizens.
