Trent Durham is a pretty great place to learn. Trent Peterborough is of course the bigger campus, but for a lot of students, Trent Durham fits our needs perfectly. Trent Durham has a smaller number of students, so you're sure to make friends easily. Professors are largely pretty accommodating, the student association is always planning events to get you involved on campus (or off campus) and the plethora of extracurriculars does not leave much to be desired. Trent Durham's a ten minute (five if you book it) walk from the Oshawa Centre which provides more food than just the staples that campus provides. The campus (and new residence) is across the parking lot from the Civic Recreation Complex which you get to use for free as a Trent student. My four years here have been great, they stick to the motto: "challenge the way you think" and honestly, spare for the self-induced panics related to essays being written the day they're due, Trent Durham is a pretty rad place that gets you the undergrad degree that'll take you where you want to go.

Great people, terrible organization
The biggest strength of this program is absolutely the people. Ive met some incredibly supportive classmates, passionate clinical instructors, and a handful of professors who genuinely care about students and want to see us succeed. Nursing school is intense, and the sense of community among students is what gets many of us through it. The program also attracts a lot of mature students, which creates a collaborative and understanding environment.
That being said, the organization of the program has been extremely frustrating at times. Communication is often last minute or unclear, schedules change with little notice, and students are frequently left scrambling to figure things out on their own. For a compressed program that is already demanding, the lack of structure adds unnecessary stress. Many students feel like we are expected to just deal with it instead of being properly supported.
There are also some very questionable teaching choices within the program. While some professors are excellent, others seem completely disconnected from the realities of student learning. Expectations feel inconsistent between courses, grading can be unclear, and certain teaching approaches honestly make already difficult content harder than it needs to be. This isnt unique to every instructor, but its common enough that many students talk about it openly.
Overall, I think Trents compressed nursing program has amazing students and some truly wonderful people within it, but the administration and overall organization seriously need improvement.
The Global Student Satisfaction Awards empower students across the globe to determine the best universities of 2025. Universities with a score above 4.0 (out of 5) in any of the 7 award categories, receive Badges of Excellence. Congratulations!
