When First District Agricultural & Mechanical School’s inaugural academic year began in 1908, few could have foreseen a major American university growing out of four faculty members and 15 students in just a little more than one lifetime.Now in its second century of service, Georgia Southern boasts 20,000-plus students, 2,000 faculty and staff, and more than 100 programs of study.

University Housing is pleased to host 5,000 students in eight residence halls. We house all 3,500 first year students as research show that living on campus your first year assist with the transition to college.
Zach S. Henderson Library supports Georgia Southern University by providing access to information, collections, and services designed to meet the scholarly needs of the University and the general public.

GSU Health Services mission is to meet or exceed the student patients full range of needs and expectations that relate to the delivery of health care services medical, counseling, educational, and wellness while providing them with cost-effective, high quality care in an efficient manner with a focus on educating students on how to be knowledgeable healthcare consumers.
Main campus includes more than 100 buildings and 900 acres, including a Performing Arts Center, Planetarium, Museum, the Center for Wildlife Education and the Garden of the Coastal Plain.
Programs & Activities:
There are many types of organizations on campus such as Professional, Greek Letter, Cultural, Service and Religious. ROTC would be considered as a professional student organization while Hispanic Student Association would be considered a cultural student organization. Other professional organizations include AITP.In addition there are political organizations as well which include the Young Democrats and Young Americans for Liberty. The Young Democrats of Georgia Southern has established significant efforts in getting students to vote.
Georgia Southern University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, masters, specialists, and doctorate degrees.
