History

The University of Memphis is the flagship institution of the Tennessee Board of Regents System.  Founded in 1912, it is recognized nationally for its academic, research and athletic programs. Today, the U of M educates more than 21,000 students, and it awards more than 4,000 bachelor, master, doctoral and professional degrees annually. The University of Memphis offers 17 bachelor’s degree in more than 250 areas of study, masters degrees in over 55 subjects and doctoral degrees in 23 disciplines. It also offers a specialist degree in education and a Juris Doctor (law degree). Home to the largest honors program in the state, it is also ranked in the Top Ten for student internships by U.S. News & World Report. The University of Memphis employs approximately 2,500 employees including 930 full-time faculties. It is comprised of eleven schools – Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Communication and Fine Arts,College of Education, Health and Human Sciences, Fogelman College of Business and Economics, Graduate School, Herff College of Engineering, Loewenberg School of Nursing, School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, School of Public Health and University College. The University of Memphis awarded $185 million in scholarships and financial aid during the academic year.

Research

Faculty in the Fogelman College of Business & Economics are involved in a variety of research disciplines, such as:

  • Supply chain design and configuration in the age of socially networked consumers
  • Management of service quality in health care, financial services and the hospitality industry
  • Ethical judgment and behavior
  • Application of neurometric (.e.g., EEG) and biometric (e.g., facial expression recognition, GSR, eye tracking) measurement approaches in investigating consumer and managerial response to marketing stimuli

Students are provided opportunities to interact with the business community through real-world, relevant, and important projects and internships.

Campus life

University of Memphis students come from practically every state and more than 80 foreign countries. Our university provides a diverse environment for students with something to offer everyone. You can participate in intramural sports, academic and social clubs, fraternities and sororities, and volunteer work. Students can live on campus in one of our dormitories or apartments. And there are numerous cultural, sports and academic activities that students can attend throughout the year.

The Fogelman College holds both business and accounting accreditation from AACSB International, an honor earned by less than 5% of business schools world-wide, and is the only AACSB school in the Memphis metropolitan area. The College has maintained continuous accreditation since 1970.
