In 2015, Lakehead University marked five decades as a place of exceptional and unconventional learning.

Alumni from across the globe, Thunder Bay and Orillia community members, students, volunteers, faculty, and staff came together to engage, celebrate, and share this milestone with us.

We aim to provide a transformative university experience that is far from ordinary. Lakehead is operated out of two campuses, and has many high-quality programs offered in a friendly environment with small class sizes. We believe our university is truly one-of-a-kind.

As an international student, you may have questions about the University and student life. Here at Lakehead International, we provide many services to assist your transition, and are committed to making your time here the best it can possibly be. The team at Lakehead International is available to answer any questions about admissions, advising, credit transfer, registration, and any other support you may need along the way.

Lakehead University’s two campus locations in Thunder Bay and Orillia, Ontario provides you with two exceptional campuses to discover.

Lakehead University's main campus is located in the City of Thunder Bay. Located on the shores of Lake Superior in Northwestern Ontario, the City of Thunder Bay is truly ‘superior by nature’. With a population of over 110,000 residents, Thunder Bay has all the amenities of a large centre combined with a small town charm and feel. 

Lakehead University’s Orillia campus is celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary. In 2006, the Lakehead experience was brought to Central Ontario’s beautiful cottage country in the City of Orillia.

Student clubs

Social Work Students Association (SWSA)

SWSA is an active student group with representation from each year level in the School of Social Work. An executive is elected annually and meetings are held regularly. The purpose of this non-profit organization is to provide assistance for social work students. It is intended to become the avenue for students to obtain the following:

  • Volunteer jobs
  • Increased access to Faculty
  • Access to Social Activities
  • Opportunities to become familiar with Community Services available
  • Peer Support Groups
  • Peer Study Groups
