In 2015, UNBC celebrated its 25th anniversary. It was in June 1990 that the members of the BC legislative assembly passed the UNBC Act, officially creating UNBC. The dream of having a northern university goes back much further, to the 1960s, when then-MLA Ray Williston set aside the land on which UNBC's Prince George campus is currently situated as a university reserve.

UNBC provides outstanding undergraduate and graduate learning opportunities that explore cultures, health, economies, and the environment. As one of BC’s research-intensive universities, we bring the excitement of new knowledge to all of our students, and the outcomes of our teaching and research to the world. In addition to fostering and celebrating academic excellence, UNBC is a welcoming place, with a learning environment that is friendly, inclusive, and supportive.

The Office of Research exists to promote and enhance the success of research by faculty, students, and partners of UNBC. Our mission is to grow capacity and opportunities for research and creative activities at UNBC by engaging our people and partners, leading to the discovery of new knowledge that has transformative academic, economic or social benefit for the region, province, nation, and beyond.

The UNBC Student Career Centre is pleased to provide services for students, our alumni and employers in our community.

Some of our services include offering workshops to assist students in preparing for employment, arranging employer recruiting and information sessions for students, participating in annual career fairs hosted on campus, posting career opportunities for Alumni, posting part-time and full-time jobs for students and organizing co-operative education work term placements.

Student services

Counselling Services strive to support students’ academic and personal success by providing assistance through counselling, helping students connect with others, and aiding students in accessing resources and information.

Counselling is the process of facilitating human change by focusing on the development of your personal objectives.

Housing services

UNBC’s campus housing is more than just a place to live for the school year — it is a convenient, safe and supportive community. Home to 540 students, our buildings, Neyoh and Keyoh (Dakelh for “for the home” and “for the community”), offer fully-furnished apartment-style living located less than a five-minute walk from the heart of campus.

Library services

The Geoffrey R. Weller Library’s mission is to be a centre of intellectual life for the University of Northern British Columbia. The Library welcomes all UNBC’s communities to access information, exchange diverse opinions, work collaboratively, conduct research, learn, teach, and pursue intellectual growth.

Medical services

Health Services works with students to manage health concerns, obtain information on relevant health and lifestyle topics, engage in health promotion, and manage healthy lifestyle changes during their university experience.
