Our origins can be traced to the early 20th century, with the foundation of Bournemouth Municipal College. Our modern history began in the early 1970s with the creation of the Bournemouth College of Technology and the construction of new buildings on the largest farm in Talbot Village – the area now known as our Talbot Campus.

Bournemouth University has more than 19,000 students and we are ranked as one of the top 200 young universities in the world, but our ambition doesn’t stop there.

Our research shapes and changes the world around us, providing solutions to real-world problems and informing the education we deliver. Our students are a key part of the research we conduct, co-creating knowledge with us and playing a crucial role in everything that we do.

You'll find careers support and help in abundance here at BU with a team of careers advisers on hand to assist you on your journey. We also run recruitment fairs and employer events to help introduce you to companies such as JP Morgan, John Lewis, Microsoft, Intel and Disney, as well as weekly careers workshops.

Student Life

Campus life

Bournemouth University benefits from a wonderful location, situated between one of the UK’s newest national parks, officially the best beach in Britain and the second largest natural harbour in the world, with the World Heritage Jurassic Coast located nearby. Good transport links means that London is only two hours away.

With all this activity comes a responsibility to the environment and we are delighted to hold the EcoCampus platinum award for our work in making the university sustainable. From bee hives to solar panels, free or subsidised bus journeys for staff and students and a raft of other initiatives, we continually seek to increase our sustainable impact.

Sports facilities

Social sport, our biggest strand within Campus Sport, are drop-in sessions to turn up and play! It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played the sport before, come along and give it a go! On offer this term, we have basketball, badminton, trampolining, football, futsal, netball & a group run. If you’d prefer something more structured, our courses are for you.

Student clubs

Our clubs and societies, run via the Students’ Union (SUBU), are based entirely on our students’ passions – so whatever you’re into, we should have it covered. These range from sports to charities, baking to gaming, education to politics or even the Bournemouth Banchees Quidditch Society (yes, it really does exist).

Our Business School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), placing Bournemouth University firmly amongst the top institutions globally for business degrees.
