In 1881 the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word founded Incarnate Word College as a center of higher education for young women. The college was admitted to membership in the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1919, and joined the Texas Association of Colleges as a senior college in 1920. Incarnate Word College became the University of the Incarnate Word in 1996.

At UIW, students can choose from over 90 undergraduate majors, minors and concentrations, and over 25 graduate, doctoral and professional doctoral programs. The diversified and comprehensive study focuses and schools offered at UIW allow students to follow their own learning pathway in a professional and personalized environment.

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies (ORGS) serves as the advocate for leadership in research and graduate and professional education at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW). In collaboration with administrators and faculty, ORGS provides strategic direction, support, and oversight to post-baccalaureate education and research at UIW.

Career Services is committed to educating UIW students and Alumni in their career exploration development. Services include individual career counseling, personality and career assessment, resume and cover letter review, career-related workshops, and programs to assist with the necessary skills needed for post-graduation success. In addition, we foster relationships with campus departments and external employers to enhance internship job and career opportunities during the student lifecycle and beyond.
