College of Charleston

History

At the College of Charleston, the past and the future influence life every day of the year. Here rows of venerable live oak trees, draped with Spanish moss, shade the brick walkways of the main campus. In the weathered buildings you can almost feel the presence of those who have gone before .

Education

Center for International Education (CIE) develops, coordinates and implements programs and services to assist students to study abroad; facilitates international student recruitment and exchanges with international partner institutions; assists international students and faculty with immigration issues; advises international students on academic and enrollment matters including cultural adjustment, and serves as the main point of contact for international study.

Research

Participating in a challenging and meaningful undergraduate research project or creative activity can be the single most important experience that you will have in college. Plus, collaborative research is a great way to work one-on-one with a faculty mentor.

Career

The mission of the Career Center is to educate, develop and assist students to prepare for and successfully meet the challenges of an ever-changing world of work. This mission is accomplished through a centralized and comprehensive Center serving the entire campus and meeting the career and educational needs of all students from entering freshmen through graduate students and alumni.

Student services

College of Charleston students are film buffs, black belts, environmentalists, deejays and volunteers. We’ve formed more than 200 student clubs and organizations where you can make new friends, learn from others, serve the community, share your talents, and best of all try something totally new.

Housing services

To be eligible for on-campus housing, you must be enrolled at the College of Charleston and be taking a minimum of nine hours per semester. You will have to sign a housing contract that is binding for the entire academic year (both fall and spring semesters). Please be sure to read the following documents carefully.

Library services

The Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library is the region’s top research library. This modern, three-story facility has a holding capacity of one million volumes, seats 1,400 people and has 300 computers, including dozens of laptops that can be checked out and linked up to the building’s ubiquitous wireless network.

ICT services

The campus wireless network provides the College of Charleston community with wireless service in all academic areas including the main campus Downtown, North Charleston, Patriots Point, Grice Marine Lab, Dixie Plantation, and the Central Warehouse. The College of Charleston does NOT operate the wireless network in the residence halls.

Medical services

Influenza cases on campus continue to stream through the doors of Student Health Services. The staff here is dedicated to taking care of every patient who arrives at our doorstep and we especially want to make sure those that are acutely ill are seen as soon as possible.

Campus life

The College of Charleston campus is smack dab in the middle of one of the most lovingly preserved historic districts in America (look both ways for horse-drawn carriages). It's like going to school in a postcard.

Sports facilities

The sports clubs are the perfect place to release your inner athlete and often make for a great excuse to hang out at the beach. Or, you can experience hands-on media training with CisternYard Media, an organization that controls our campus television studio, radio station, the newsroom and our award-winning literary magazine, Miscellany.

Student clubs

College is a great place to meet people with similar backgrounds or hang out with a whole new crowd. Whatever your preference, we have dozens of religious, international and multicultural organizations to serve our diverse student body.

The College of Charleston is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate and masters degrees.
