WMG University of Warwick

WMG is an academic department at the University of Warwick and is the leading international role model for successful collaboration between academia and the public and private sectors, driving innovation in science, technology and engineering, to develop the brightest ideas and talent that will shape our future.

History

In 1980 Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya had a vision to improve the competitiveness of organisations through the application of value adding innovation, new technologies and skills deployment, bringing academic rigour to industrial and organisational practice.

  • We understand that innovation can be disruptive and we embrace change. Our education is informed by our latest research and co-created with our partners to ensure relevance for today’s rapidly changing world.
  • We champion lifelong learning to support you at every stage of your caree

Research

As one of the UK's leading research universities, we have a commitment to research that is internationally recognised, with impact and purpose. Our research strategy presents an ambitious vision for the future, one in which our research will transform the way that we understand the world, creating lives that are healthier, safer, more resilient, just, and fulfilled. Our research is inspired by fundamental questions led by our own intellectual curiosity. We also strive to inspire the curiosity of others, working with, and being challenging of our partners from the public, private and charity sectors.

Career

  • Our people enjoy all the typical benefits you would expect from a top ten UK university, but unlike a typical university department, we think and operate much more like a medium-sized business. We have over 720 staff and associates who support our work; in fact we're the largest department in the University both in terms of number of employees and our research income (we contribute around 38% of the University's total research income).
  • We encourage everyone to be creative, and to contribute towards pushing the department ever forwards. There is often the opportunity to get involved with projects that might normally be considered outside of a standard job description.

Extending way beyond lecture theatres, seminar rooms, and the library, Warwick's campus is a diverse and exciting community in its own right.

Sports facilities

The main campus hosts a large leisure centre, comprising of 25m swimming pool, two sports halls, gymnasium, squash courts and rock-climbing facility. Elsewhere on campus are a number of other sports halls, outside tennis courts, 400 m athletics track, multi-purpose outdoor surfaces and cricket grounds. Sports facilities are being constantly expanded.

Indoor tennis courts have recently been opened on the Westwood Campus sports venue and an Olympic-size swimming pool has been rumoured in the long-term, depending on Coventry City Council's priorities. Most of the University's sports facilities are open to the general public.
