History
The first Fort Lewis army post was constructed in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, in 1878, and was relocated in 1880 to Hesperus, Colorado, on the southern slopes of the La Plata Mountains. In 1891, Fort Lewis was decommissioned and converted into a federal, off-reservation boarding school.
Education
Your classes are small in numbers, but as wide as the world. They rarely end at the classroom door. Your faculty are guides and mentors in this modern life as much as they are teachers of academic subjects. Your peers are collaborators in coursework, and co-conspirators in adventure.
Research
Graduate Programs in Bioscience at UCLA is inviting you check out the incredible research going on at UCLA and how they support both graduate students and undergraduates looking for summer research opportunities.
Many of their students participated in programs such as MARC, IMSD and LSAMP as undergraduates. Check out our most recent newsletter to meet some of these students and hear their stories and views about UCLA.

Housing services
We know it’s hard moving to a new place. It’s also important that the place we live feels like home. This is why our staff put extra effort into creating an environment where you can feel safe and free to be you.
Our eight residential communities include two apartment complexes, family housing, gender-inclusive housing, the Adventure House Living-Learning Community and our Faculty in Residence program, in addition to singles, doubles, and suites.
Library services
The library includes material pertaining to the environment, sustainability, social justice, agriculture, native and indigenous cultures and practices, and much more! It is a satellite branch of the Fort Lewis College John F. Reed Library and is included in the FLC library catalog.
ICT services
The Information Technology Department partners with Fort Lewis College students, faculty, staff and community by providing excellence and innovation in services and resources supporting the mission and strategic plans of the college.
Medical services
The Student Health Center (SHC) appreciates and thanks you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we navigate how to continue to provide the best care for our students while also protecting our staff and community.
We assist students with academic and professional success through wellness, which provides inclusive and collaborative health care.
Campus life
With the best view in town, FLC breathes human innovation into 247 acres sitting at 6,872 feet. 12% of our “Tree campus” is xeriscaped with native and low-irrigation plants. Over half of campus energy comes from solar and wind power, and we have reduced carbon emissions by 58% since 2011.
Sports facilities
As a student, your fees include a membership to our Student Life Center. Reach for new heights on the climbing wall, pump some iron in the weight room, raise your heartrate on a treadmill or the indoor track, or round up a few pals for some pickup b-ball. On a sunny day, of which we have no shortage in Durango, head outside to the tennis courts or the frisbee golf course.
In addition to making use of these facilities for your wellness, you can also participate in organized activities like club sports and intramural sports, or wilderness adventure trips with Outdoor Pursuits.

FLC's community is bright and vibrant, with students, staff, and faculty from an abundance of cultural backgrounds. With almost 180 Native American Tribes and Alaska Native villages represented, and students of color making up over half of the student body, we are one of the most diverse college campuses in the nation.
