The University of Alaska Anchorage traces its origins back to 1954, when Anchorage Community College (ACC) was founded. That year, ACC began offering evening classes to 414 students at Elmendorf Air Force Base. In 1962, ACC, along with other community colleges around the state, was incorporated into the University of Alaska statewide system.

The mission of the University of Alaska Anchorage is to discover and disseminate knowledge through teaching, research, engagement and creative expression. Located in Anchorage and on community campuses in Southcentral Alaska, UAA is committed to serving the higher education needs of the state, its communities and its diverse peoples. UAA is an open-access university with academic programs leading to occupational endorsements; undergraduate and graduate certificates; and associate, baccalaureate and graduate degrees in a rich, diverse and inclusive environment.

Welcome to UAA's Research website, which illustrates the tremendous growth in research, creative works, and commercialization at UAA. It features many significant accomplishments with impacts that benefit the welfare of society regionally, nationally and globally—from medical therapies to engineering and scientific advances, and the arts.

Student services

The Dean of Students Office is part of Student Affairs. We strive to remain "student focused" and build programs with each and every student as a priority. We provide opportunities for involvement and growth for students to be successful and achieve their academic goals. The Dean of Students Office provides critical incident response and resolution of complaints regarding student behavior through mediation and/or the Student Conduct process.

Housing services

All on campus housing facilities are staffed with professional and student personnel who provide guidance, support, and academic and social programming to help you achieve success as a student at UAA and in the future. Additionally, dedicated learning and lifestyle communities are available to help residents connect with peers of similar goals, interest, and backgrounds.

ICT services

The Office of the CIO and IT Services is responsible for UAA's telecommunications, network infrastructure, and academic technology support services. We work closely with distributed IT staff located on UAA campuses as well as with our colleagues at UAS, UAF and our Statewide organization.

Medical services

The Student Health and Counseling Center (SHCC) promotes optimal health for the University community through access to high quality and affordable health care, preventative health care, individual counseling, consulting, outreach and health education.
