History
The Guildhall School of Music and Drama is an independent music and dramatic arts school which was founded in 1880 in London, England.
Research
Research at the Guildhall School explores fundamental questions about the creative arts. It embraces a wide range of disciplines within music and drama including composition, performance, pedagogy, institution studies, historical musicology, music and literature studies, cultural history, electronic music, creative writing and music therapy.
Housing services
Sundial Court, the School's hall of residence, is located in Chiswell Street, just around the corner from the Silk Street building. Sundial Court has 176 bedrooms in thirty-nine flats, each with either three, four, five or six bedrooms.
Library services
The Library has one of the most extensive specialised collections of music and drama print and electronic resources in Europe, and is integral to the Guildhall School’s status as a centre of excellence in music and drama teaching, learning and research.It aims to provide students with a comfortable, supportive and welcoming study environment.
ICT services
As you would expect, Guildhall has well-equipped IT facilities, including PCs with access to Microsoft Office 2016 / Office 365 and Sibelius, A3 colour printer photocopiers, Laptop locker loan units, mobile device powering stations and Wi-Fi provision around the Silk Street, Milton Court, Annexe and Sundial Court buildings.
Medical services
To ensure that your needs are catered for we can offer:
- individual consultation and supportive sessions with the Senior Disability and Welfare Advisor and/or the Senior Health and Welfare Advisor,
- screening for specific learning difficulties (including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and ADHD and Autism),
- a programme of specialist study skills tuition within the School,
Campus life
Our facilities include the Grade II-listed Silk Street building, part of the distinctive and architecturally-renowned Barbican complex, and Milton Court, our newer site across the road.
Milton Court’s world-class performance and training spaces include a state of the art concert hall, a lyric theatre, a studio theatre and several major rehearsal rooms.
Silk Street offers a more intimate music hall, a dedicated lecture recital room, a completely flexible theatre, theatrical workshops and labs, electronic music studios, recording and sound studios, and over 40 teaching and practice rooms.
Sports facilities
Music students may practise in their bedrooms during permitted hours. Local amenities, including supermarkets, bars, restaurants and sports facilities are all within easy walking distance. Two underground stations are within minutes of the residence.

Very good teachers, good campus, okay atmosphere.
If one wants to get very serious about music it's difficult to find people who will have the same mindset. A lot of students don't know their passion for sure yet. For me the teachers made sure I kept on working and improving and were key to keeping me passionate and focused.
