Southeastern Louisiana University

History

Southeastern Louisiana University began as a grass-roots movement by the people of Hammond and the surrounding area, who recognized the need for an institution of higher education in order to further the educational, economic and cultural development of southeast Louisiana.

Education

We are passionate about our students, providing them with a challenging college experience that empowers them with a lifelong education.

Research

The mission of the Office of Institutional Research is to provide data, information, expertise, and leadership in support of the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of Southeastern Louisiana University.

Southeastern's first Strategic Priority in Vision 2005 is to "Recruit, advance, and graduate qualified students". The following information provides data to help advance that priority.

Student services

The Mission of the Client Services Help Desk at Southeastern Louisiana University is to provide instruction, support and consultation to faculty and staff in the efficient use of the latest software technology available, and to provide timely hardware installation, service and maintenance.

The Southeastern Student Help Desk is a technical support service for students who are using the various computer systems at Southeastern.  Around-the-clock telephone support as well as daytime and evening chat support are available to students that may be experiencing technical challenges.  It is our goal to support the students that use our systems so that their Southeastern experience is less complicated.

Housing services

ODS provides disability-related accommodations to students who are qualified and self-identify with the office. Accommodations are modifications within the classroom environment that allow an otherwise qualified student with a disability equal access as to any other non-disabled peer.

In order to receive accommodations, students must present faculty with proper notification from the Office of Disability Services. It is the student's responsibility to self-identify with the Office of Disability Services and to request accommodations each semester. Students may request accommodations at any time during the semester, until the two weeks prior to the beginning of final exams.

Library services

The mission of the Linus A. Sims Memorial Library is to provide materials, services and instruction that support the University community and to promote information literacy and lifelong learning within the region.

Medical services

The cost of health care in the United States is very high and there is no national health plan. Nonresidents in the United States are not eligible for financial assistance from the US government to pay for medical bills. Therefore, the policies of Southeastern Louisiana University require that all students and scholars and accompanying family members have adequate health insurance coverage.

Campus life

There are many advantages to living on campus!

Living on campus puts you in a prime position for academic success! You are within walking distance of the library, classroom buildings and computer labs. And because our residential facilities house a mix of majors, there's always someone you can partner with to study.

A great benefit of living on campus is having the opportunity to meet other on campus residents! You'll meet interesting and diverse people from the region, the nation, and even the world! Many of the friendships you form as an on campus resident will last a lifetime.

Sports facilities

Since June 6, 2001, the Claude B. Pennington, Jr. Student Activity Center has been the "fitness home" to thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of alumni wanting to improve their levels of physical fitness and activity. In addition to our high quality equipment, the Student Activity Center is also proud to hold events for Southeastern students, alumni, and faculty, such as massage therapy, career fairs and more!

Student clubs

Student Organizations at Southeastern are an integral part of campus life and one of the best opportunities for students to learn outside of the classroom. Students are provided with opportunities to gain experiences and knowledge from the classroom with the everyday experience of living and working in a society with people of varied cultures, interests, ideas and values.

Southeastern Louisiana University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, baccalaureate, masters and doctoral degrees. Southeastern is a Level V institution.
