Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania

History

Founded in 1871, Shippensburg University has a long and proud history centered on serving the educational, social and cultural needs of our students. We were the first normal school in Pennsylvania to be chartered as a state teachers college and the first to be accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Education

Ship's primary commitment is to student learning and personal development through effective and innovative teaching, plus a wide variety of high-quality, out-of-class experiences. Our ultimate goal is to have students fully develop their intellectual, personal and social capabilities to perform as competent citizens prepared to embark on a career immediately upon graduation or after advanced study.

Research

  • In our research programs, you’ll be able to work side-by-side with faculty who are making important advancements in their fields. You don’t have to wait until you’re a graduate student to start either - we offer research opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Shippensburg University encourages you to dig deep into a subject that interests you. Discover unknown phenomena, develop theories, reinterpret existing knowledge, apply established results to new situations and construct original work that advances human understanding. Ultimately, you can play a part in deepening our comprehension of the world, the universe and ourselves.

Career

The Career, Mentoring, and Professional Development Center (CMPDC) supports all Ship students, faculty, staff, families, employers and organizations, and alumni up to one year after graduation. Its services go far beyond just helping you find a job. The CMPDC also helps you with resumes, cover letters, applications, portfolios, the interview process, professionalism, and more. The center also holds workshops and career fairs throughout the year.
