History
When Joseph Baldwin, an innovative educator, opened a school in the 1860s, he probably did not expect for it to have such a big impact. Originally founded as a teacher’s college, Truman State University has evolved into Missouri’s only public liberal arts and sciences institution.
Education
- The Missouri Legislature gave Truman a statewide liberal arts and sciences mission in 1985. Truman provides an outstanding liberal arts education to academically talented students from across the state of Missouri, our nation, and the world at an affordable price.
- Truman is nationally known for its assessment program, which is designed to measure student learning and outcomes. Truman’s retention and graduation rates are consistently among the highest in the state.
Research
Truman provides many different venues for both undergraduate and graduate students to participate in original research, whether classroom-based or faculty-directed research projects. There are also several summer research programs dedicated to fostering student research, such as the McNair Program and the TruScholars Program.
Research opportunities are available to everyone at Truman State University, from undergraduate students to faculty members
