History

Founded in 1875, IUP is a vibrant, comprehensive, research-based, teaching-focused, student-centered learning community.

IUP has been ranked nationally as a "Best for Vets" university by Military Times.

Our community service earns national recognition, having been chosen for the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. IUP has been nationally ranked among socially responsible schools by Washington Monthly.

Research

We believe IUP’s strengths and resources can make the world better. To share our expertise, our centers and institutes offer services to business and industry, the community, government and human service agencies, educators, and more.

Housing services

A living-learning community is a community of students who live together in a university residential facility or a portion of the building, such as a floor or wing, and participate in academically and intellectually engaging learning activities designed specifically for them.

Research has shown that students in living-learning programs tend to have a smoother transition to college, higher grades, more mentoring from faculty, a stronger sense of civic engagement, and fewer problems with alcohol and other drug use.

Seventy-eight emergency telephones throughout the campus that connect directly to the police office and automatically dispatch officers to the scene. An extensive emergency-notification system to alert students and employees via cell phone, text messaging, and e-mail when an emergency situation occurs. More than 95 percent of IUP students have registered for this emergency-alert program.

IUP Mature and Non-Traditional Student Review

As a mature student with a family and working, I found IUP to be very accommodating. The professors were outstanding, very knowledgeable, approachable, and willing. Their support of my research degree was and still is stellar.

Way to go!

Even though I used the platform some time back, I didn't choose my institution because of what I found here. However, I think it's a good platform for those who are looking to get information about school and programs they'd like to pursue. I'm enrolled in a great institution, but the problem is with finding the money to pay bills, tuition and fees. Being in a place where you're restricted and not allowed to work yet they want you to pay tuition and fees (knowing you're not a national), is really tough. It's close to impossible getting a study loan and this is what makes studies hard: you can't concentrate on studies because you're constantly worrying about how to fend for yourself, and finding ways to clear the school dues.
