Agnes Scott College

History

Agnes Scott College was established in 1889 with a distinctive mission: to educate women for the betterment of their families and the elevation of their region. Today, that mission has evolved into a commitment to educate students from around the world to “think deeply, live honorably and engage the intellectual and social challenges of their times.”

Education

Agnes Scott College educates women to think deeply, live honorably and engage the intellectual and social challenges of their times.

  • Agnes Scott College provides a dynamic liberal arts and sciences curriculum of the highest standards so that students and faculty can realize their full creative and intellectual potential.
  • Agnes Scott College fosters an environment in which women can develop high expectations for themselves as individuals, scholars, professionals and citizens of the world.
  • Agnes Scott College strives to be a just and inclusive community that expects honorable behavior, encourages spiritual inquiry and promotes respectful dialogue across differences.

Research

Students are strongly encouraged to seek out opportunities to become engaged in research, especially those students planning to attend graduate school in the biological sciences or related fields. Students should be proactive in their search for a research experience and ideally should begin serious inquiries not later than their sophomore year at Agnes Scott. A variety of research opportunities exists for students, both on and off campus.

Career

Building “Career Literacy” is part of the mission of the Office of Internship and Career Development. Our goal is for students to increase their awareness of possible career paths, find options that fit their interest, and feel knowledgeable about ways they can transfer skills and learning from the classroom to the workplace.

Student services

The programs, services, resources and advocacy efforts of the division of student life are intentionally designed with attention to outcomes that expand students’ spheres of knowledge, engage them in transformative experiences and promote knowledge of self, others and the world.

Housing services

Agnes Scott College (ASC) provides housing accommodations for students with a documented qualifying medical, physical or psychological disability on a case-by-case basis. To be considered for a housing accommodation, you must register with the Office of Accessible Education.

Library services

The Andrew Carnegie Library was the College's first library building. A gift of Mr. Carnegie, it was on the southeast corner of the Woodruff Quad. That building was demolished in 1986, having served first as a library, then as a student center ("the Hub") after the new library was constructed.

ICT services

Information Technology (IT) is dedicated to serving the needs of the total learning environment at Agnes Scott. We have a team of bright and enthusiastic individuals committed to providing the best service and support to the campus.
