History

Building On A 160-year History As A Competitive And Innovative Undergraduate Institution, Bard College's Mission Has Expanded Across The Country, Around The World, And To Meet Broader Student Needs.

Education

Now, approximately 1,900 undergraduates study in Annandale and more than 600 graduate students study in Bard programs, plus nearly 1,200 students in our early colleges and 2,500 at Bard’s global affiliates. 

Research

Bard College seeks to inspire curiosity, a love of learning, idealism, and a commitment to the link between higher education and civic participation. The undergraduate curriculum is designed to address central, enduring questions facing succeeding generations of students. 

Academic disciplines are interconnected through multidisciplinary programs; a balance in the curriculum is sought between general education and individual specialization. Students pursue a rigorous course of study reflecting diverse traditions of scholarship, research, speculation, and artistic expression.

Housing services

The towns and villages near Bard have all sorts of hotels, motels, inns, and bed & breakfasts, many of which offer discounts for Bard visitors.

Library services

The Charles P. Stevenson Jr. Library's mission is to be an active partner in the intellectual work of Bard's students, faculty, and staff; to develop collections and services that help all users become more resourceful, independent, and original scholars; and to take a campus leadership role in thoughtfully applying emerging media to the task of turning information into knowledge. 

ICT services

The Bard IT Helpdesk is the primary contact for all students, faculty, and staff for computing and technology issues. The Helpdesk provides technical, hardware, and software support for all Bard-owned computers including network and e-mail issues, password recovery, printing assistance.

Medical services

Care at Bard College Student Health Services is based on a holistic approach to treating students. Our goal is to promote optimum physical, emotional, intellectual, and social well being through education, preventative and primary care.

We believe that health care is a partnership between the student and the health care provider. 

Campus life

Bard's historic main campus is located along the Hudson River in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. This rural setting is home to Bard's undergraduate program and many Bard institutes. But the College's initiatives reach far beyond Annandale. 

Campuses in New York City, Boston, California, Germany, and Russia bring Bard's mission to the world. From urban settings to rural, from programs at small institutes to large universities, Bard is a global institution for the 21st century.

Sports facilities

Bard offers a variety of club sports sponsored through the Department of Athletics and Recreation including Men's and Women's Rugby, Men's and Women's Ultimate Frisbee, Equestrian and Fencing. Below is information about each of our club sports. Other sports, including cycling and ice hockey, are also available to students, though they are not sponsored by the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

Accreditation

Bard College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The courses of study leading to the bachelor of arts, bachelor of music, and bachelor of science degrees at Bard are registered by the New York State Education Department.

A place to think

Bard College places freedom of choice as one of its leading factors. The open curriculum allows students to choose their own courses and enables the individual to pursue one or more areas of interest through their studies. Learning goes beyond class, as students have the opportunity to engage and be part of various clubs and organizations, widening their intellectual horizons.

Practical and efficient learning

Good teachers who made the subjects interesting. We learned many valuable things that are useful in the working world, instead of studying things just on a theory basis, we focused more on the practical side.
