Radford University

Radford University is a comprehensive public university of 11,870 students that has received national recognition for many of its undergraduate and graduate academic programs, as well as its sustainability initiatives. Radford University serves the Commonwealth of Virginia and the nation through a wide range of academic, cultural, human service and research programs.

History

The institution now known as Radford University was founded by the Virginia General Assembly in the spring of 1910. The State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Radford grew out of a late nineteenth-century effort to expand Virginia's public school system and prepare a sufficient number of teachers. The school was to be located on 33 acres in east Radford known as the "Heth Grove."

Housing services

More than 3,000 students live on-campus across 15 residence halls. In total, more than 80 percent of our students live on campus or in off-campus housing within walking distance to the university. 

Themed housing, including Honors Academy, visual and performing arts and College of Science and Information Technology majors create unique learning communities for qualified interested students. 

There are nearly a dozen different places to eat on campus, including Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, Wendy’s, Papa John's, Austin Grill and many more. Dalton and Muse Hall offer more traditional dining settings.

Library services

The library at Radford was first located in the Administration Building, once standing where Muse is located. When the college opened in 1914, the library housed 1,500 volumes. Groundbreaking for McConnell Library began in 1931, with a budget of $43,000. The library was completed during the 1931-32 session. 

ICT services

The computer labs across campus have the software installed for students to complete assignments.All of Radford University campus buildings have wireless access. It is recommended that all faculty, staff, and students use eduroam when connecting to the wireless network.  eduroam will encrypt all data as it is transmitted to the wireless access point preventing any exposure of data. 

Campus life

The University Campus is set on a beautiful 204-acre American classical campus,that offers students many opportunities to get involved and succeed in and out of the classroom.

Sports facilities

Student Recreation & Wellness at Radford University takes great pride in providing a variety of programming events for students and employees. Our staff works diligently to provide quality recreational opportunities to enhance quality of life.

Student clubs

Radford University students can join any of approximately 250 clubs and organizations.  If you are interested in getting involved, all you have to know is what is of interest to you.

Radford University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, masters, specialist, and doctorate degrees.
