History

We are a private Catholic coeducational liberal arts college founded in 1928 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, Massachusetts. Elms College is located in Chicopee, Massachusetts, and grants associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.

The Career Center provides resources and programs to support your career exploration.  Assistance may include: finding internships; looking for part-time and full-time employment; preparing for graduate school; internship sites, to future professional employment opportunities. The center director can help you identify and clarify your short- and long-term goals, qualities, skills, knowledge, talents, and abilities, and guide you in applying these qualifications in hands-on learning experiences.

Student services

Affirming the Elms College values of faith, community, justice, and excellence, the Student Leadership Institute (SLI) strives to offer all students the opportunity to engage in a variety of experiences that benefit their leadership development.

Housing services

  • Living on campus is an experience that enhances and enriches your college experience outside of the classroom. Your residence hall is more than just a place to sleep and study, but a place to build lifelong friendships with students who are different from yourself.
  • When you live on campus, our residence halls become your home, our dining hall is your dining room, and you’ll find dozens of new places to hang out with your friends.
  • Elms has no residency requirement for enrolled students, but we highly encourage students, even from the local area, to consider living on campus.

Library services

Alumnae Library is more than the portal for scholarly research. It houses the Alumnae Learning Commons, Student Accommodations and Support Servicesand The Student Success Center, which includes The Academic Resource Center(for tutoring), and the Advising Center.

ICT services

There are computer labs on campus that are available to all Elms College students. You will need your student ID card to use one of these labs. The labs are located on the first floor of the Mary Dooley College Center, in rooms 203 and 209 of Berchmans Hall, and the lower level of Alumnae Library. 

Medical services

Elms College’s health center assists students with health promotion activities and practices that contribute to life-long wellness. We are equipped to handle everything from seasonal illnesses and common health concerns to the management of significant episodic and chronic health issues.

Sports facilities

The Maguire Center includes an aerobics/weight room, a 25-meter handicapped-accessible six-lane pool, a wood-floored gymnasium that can host basketball or volleyball events, an elevated rubberized 100-meter track, a sports medicine facility, a laundry room, and four locker rooms. The aerobics/ weight room holds a full-line of Cybex weight training machines, free weights and other multi-purpose apparatus, top-quality Life stride treadmills and Life cycles, Stairmaster steppers, and a Precor climber.
