Located atop one of the rolling hills in central New York’s “City of Seven Valleys,” the State University of New York College at Cortland was founded in 1868 as the Cortland Normal School. Among its earliest students is inventor and industrialist Elmer

Student services

The Division of Academic Affairs at SUNY Cortland endeavors to ensure that not only our students, but also faculty and academic support staff, have a wonderful intellectual and cultural experience.

Housing services

Students with disabilities whose paperwork has been processed through the SUNY Cortland Disability Resources Office and who have been approved to receive housing accommodations will receive those accommodations at the standard double room rate or the West Campus Apartments rate, regardless of the differential room rate of their housing assignment.  Accommodations can include wheelchair accessible single rooms with wheelchair accessible private bathrooms, wheelchair accessible rooms, air-conditioned rooms, single rooms and rooms with private bathrooms.  These rooms are available in limited quantities.

Library services

When you walk through our doors, you will find the tools and assistance you need to be a successful student or faculty member at SUNY Cortland. The library has computer labs, multimedia studios, books, journals and online resources to help you study, research and entertain yourself. There are comfortable places to study alone or in groups.

ICT services

  • SUNY Cortland Information Resources supports the ability for Faculty, Staff, Students and Guests to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) to campus in order to access the internet as well as other areas of the campus network.
  • Campus internet connection. The communication links and associated security systems that connect the campus network with the rest of the world's networks.

Medical services

Only students who have paid the Mandatory Health fee, completed the online Health History Report and Tuberculosis Screening forms and shown adequate proof of immunizations are eligible for care at the Student Health Service. For students under age 18, a Consent Form signed by a parent or guardian is required.

Sports facilities

Cortland Recreational Sports provides a variety of recreational opportunities that contribute to the physical, emotional and social health of all members of our College community. We continuously develop programs and activities for our participants to increase their positive use of leisure time, improve their quality of life and encourage them to commit to a lifetime of fitness and recreation participation.

Student clubs

Cortland has a chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honorary. Undergraduate students who have completed at least 10 credit hours of work in political science, including one course not open to students in the first two years of college work, are eligible. 

  • State University of New York College at Cortland is accredited by The Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. 
  • The teacher preparation programs at the State University of New York College at Cortland are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
  • The M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders is a candidate for accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
