Morgan State University

History

Founded in 1867 as the Centenary Biblical Institute by the Baltimore Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the institution's original mission was to train young men in ministry. It subsequently broadened its mission to educate both men and women as teachers. 

Education

Morgan State is one of the few historically black institutions nationally to offer a comprehensive range of academic programs, in business, engineering, education, architecture, social work, and hospitality management, in addition to those in the arts and sciences and programs leading to the doctorate.

Research

The Student Research Center (SRC) is a registered Morgan State University undergraduate student organization, partially run by students with the support of the SRC Coordinator and faculty advisor. The SRC encourages networking and health research enrichment for the students by engaging students in a vibrant research environment, where they will be surrounded by and can exchange research ideas with peers and near-peer mentors. 

Career

The Center for Career Development provides assistance to students and alumni in the career decision-making process. We provide assistance through career assessments, counseling (individual advising/counseling) and experiential learning opportunities, a career resource center for obtaining career information and researching employers, developing job-seeking skills through seminars and individualized preparation, planning and executing a targeted job search, providing opportunities to interview with employers; access to job fairs and career days sponsored by Morgan State University and other organizations in the region. 

Student services

The Office of the Provost and Office for Academic Affairs provides administrative oversight for the schools, colleges, and academic support resources of Morgan State University. 

Housing services

We offer various housing options to all students who are interested in residing on campus.  A description of our residence halls can be found by clicking the hall names listed on the left of the page. Each residence hall has a main area, vending machine, and washers and dryers at cost and in most residence halls, computer labs available for the use by the residents only.  The University dining facility is located in Rawlings Hall.

Library services

The Earl S. Richardson Library is the main academic information resource center on the campus.  The new building which covers approximately 222,517 square feet opened in 2008.   It houses approximately 400,000 volumes and access to 1,900 periodical titles. The Library subscribes to over 100 online databases.  Reading and study spaces provide wired and wireless access to databases for research.

ICT services

The Earl S. Richardson Library houses several computer labs located on the 1st floor of the building. All labs are outfitted with smart classroom technology and printing services. These spaces are available for reservation by faculty.

Medical services

The University Health Center (UHC)is a primary care facility where Morgan State University students can be evaluated and treated for acute and chronic medical conditions as well as guidance on practices that promote good health and disease prevention. These high quality and accessible health services are fully covered under the University's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).  

Campus life

The University has the advantages of both suburban life and proximity to an urban center. Built on two slopes, the campus is strategically located in the picturesque northeastern section of Baltimore, a city with a population of more than 657,000, and is surrounded by rapidly growing residential communities. The center of the city is easily accessible from the University campus.

Sports facilities

 The University Student Center includes a state-of-the-art Recreation Center, located on the 2nd Floor in room 201.  Here at the Rec Center we offer 7 Billiard tables, air hockey, table tennis,and arcade games, but the fun does not stop there!

Student clubs

The mission of the Office of Student Life and Development (OSLD) is to foster an environment of inclusiveness, that encompasses; Co-curricular experiences, Special Events, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Weekend Life Experience, Excursions and Trainings.

Morgan State University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
