History

Since 1885, we at Springfield College have had a singular focus on educating students—in spirit, mind, and body—for leadership in service to others.  We call it our Humanics philosophy.  The world has changed since 1885, and we have, too. New academic programs, renovations, construction, and other major developments have ensured that we remain relevant to today’s students and society.

Education

Springfield College offers 47 undergraduate majors in a wide range of human-helping professions. Our majors blend traditional coursework with experiential learning such as internships, fieldwork, student teaching, and practicums. The blend of classroom and real-world experience is what provides our students with skills, knowledge, insight, and networks to achieve their career goals upon graduation.

Research

  • The Springfield College Center for Youth Development and Research provides consultation, evaluation, and training services to organizations that strive to foster positive youth development.
  • The center staff has designed, implemented, and evaluated several of the largest youth development through sport programs in the USA.

Career

Students from all programs and schools are encouraged to work with the Career Center staff as early as their first year. The experienced staff is committed to student learning and development, and offers a variety of opportunities for students and alumni. The services provided by the Career Center are free of charge, and are available to students during their time at Springfield College, and long after they’ve graduated.

Student services

The Student Government Association (SGA) promotes the interests and welfare of the student body and guides and finances more than 50 registered student organizations. Managed by elected students, SGA approves funding for active student organizations, adopts policies effecting students, and serves as a liaison between students and the College administration.

Grad Student

Good program but demands a lot of you. Do not have much to say about the overall school as I only interact with my specific program. I have not used any of the computer labs, sports facilities, gym, or take part in any clubs or groups on campus. Parking can sometimes be annoying as the campus is in downtown Louisville and sometimes have to walk around downtown to get to your building.

Warm Clinical PsyD Faculty

The Clinical Psychology PsyD Program is great! The faculty and classes help you prepare for practicum work in the community and the majority of supervisors/faculty/professors are very warm, engaging, and love what they do. The price of tuition is high, and having a job outside of grad school was difficult but many do make it work. I never lived on campus, I never ate on campus, I commuted roughly 20 minutes and parking was easy.

Limited amenities for commuters

My experiences of Spalding's university life are limited due to being a commuter and graduate student. The campus lacks in aesthetics and amenities for campus living. However my program and curricula are adequate for the profession degree I am obtaining.
