Dakota State University was founded in 1881 as a school for teacher education in the Dakota Territory. Our strong programs, Trojan pride, and innovative ways have allowed us to become one of the most technologically advanced campuses in the Midwest.

DSU provides learning that integrates technology and innovation to develop graduates ready to contribute to local, national, and global prosperity.

  • At Dakota State University, we nurture an environment that celebrates and rewards innovation. We're proud to be the catalyst for rewarding creativity and growth.
  • Research and Economic Development Affairs is dedicated to building the culture of research at DSU. Both students and faculty have the means and the opportunities to be agents of innovation in South Dakota.
  • DSU undergraduate students have earned awards and recognition from NASA South Dakota Space Grant Consortium and the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s National Center for Environmental Research.

When you work at Dakota State, you become part of our Trojan family. We are caring, family-oriented, united, and inclusive. From training sessions to benefit packages, we strive to ensure our employees have what they need to succeed in their career – and their personal lives. Plus, being a part of a campus that is dedicated, driven, and dynamic means you’ll have optimal chances to excel in your career.

Campus life

Gaming. Intramural sports. Movie nights. Whatever you’re looking for to keep you busy, we have it right here on campus. Stroll over to the TC to play a round of pool. Sit back, relax with popcorn and enjoy your favorite movie. Go head to head in friendly competition with a sport you love. Connect with others, engage yourself, be part of the Trojan community.

Sports facilities

As a DSU student, you’ll have access to the Madison Community Center, which is located on our campus and features:

  • A pool and sauna
  • Running track
  • Fitness equipment

Student clubs

DSU's campus is home to more than 35 student-run clubs. Build model rockets with the Space Club. Act out in the Theatre Club.
