History

University of Michigan-Dearborn was founded in 1959 with a gift of just over 200 acres from the Ford Motor Company. Since then, we’ve grown as a comprehensive, top-ranked, regional public university.

Education

Research

Our new, state-of-the-art Engineering Lab Building actively facilitates an immersive, interactive and innovative learning experience. Housing services

The product of a collaboration between UM-Dearborn and Urban Campus Communities, The Union at Dearborn is independently operated and features fully furnished apartments with utilities included and modern amenities, such as:

Library services

The Mardigian Library is a campus hub for student success, creativity, knowledge creation, and interdisciplinary collaboration; a gathering place for learners; and a catalyst for integrated learning, innovation, and community engagement.

ICT services

UM-Dearborn ITS is responsible for providing our campus community with technology support and services. We are charged with maintaining our IT infrastructure, while providing support for classroom, lab and office computing, managing custom development services, and collaborating with partners across campus to advance the use of technology in support of our mission.

Medical services

We provide a range of services to ensure that all students receive equal access to the support they need to thrive on and off campus.

  • The Student Food Pantry provides temporary food assistance to students.
  • Students are eligible for personal counseling at no charge.
  • Disability Services help students with disabilities participate in every part of mainstream college life.

Campus life

Campus is conveniently located just 20 minutes from Detroit Metropolitan Airport, 15 minutes from downtown Detroit and 38 miles east of Ann Arbor. We’re about a mile from the new John D. Dingell Transit Center. You can find coffee, snacks and meals to go right on campus. Central campus offerings include McKinley Café and Starbucks. Take some time to explore the metropolitan area and soak in the region’s history, culture and recreation. The Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce and Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau offer extensive listings of nearby attractions.

Sports facilities

The Wellness Center, located inside the Fieldhouse, is open to all current students, faculty and staff. It features cardio equipment, free weights, weight machines, men’s and women’s locker rooms, two racquetball courts and a dance studio that holds various fitness classes.

Student clubs

We’re home to more than 145 student organizations, each one an opportunity to collaborate and connect. UM-Dearborn sponsors several groups, from Student Government to Lyceum, our literary magazine.
