Although its founding year is 1871, the University in fact has deeper roots tracing from the West Chester Academy, a private, state-aided school which existed from 1812 to 1869.
The University offers more than 100 graduate and undergraduate programs in the arts and sciences, business and public affairs, the social sciences, visual and performing arts, health sciences and teacher education.
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) promotes and facilitates the research environment of WCU. We assist faculty and students who are interested in being involved in research on campus.
Student Services, Incorporated (SSI) is a not-for-profit organization primarily designed to serve the students of West Chester University. The objective of the corporation is to initiate, regulate, and operate the financial matters of co-curricular student activities. Such activities include the management of the campus bookstore, the auxiliary food services, the ram e-card program, student publications, student organizations, check cashing/ticket service, the administrative aspects of student programming, intercollegiate athletics, and the Graduate Student Association.
The Office of Residence Life and Housing Services, located in room 202 Lawrence Center, assists students in all aspects of their on-campus living experience. This includes supervision of the residence hall staff, oversight of university policies and procedures related to campus housing, and the oversight of the Traditional North Campus Residence Halls and the South Campus Apartment Complex. The Residence Life and Housing Services staff is committed to making your experience in on-campus housing both an enjoyable experience and one of personal development.
Two outstanding libraries support West Chester University. The main facility is the Francis Harvey Green Library on the campus quadrangle at the corner of High Street and Rosedale Avenue. The Presser Music Library is housed in room 121 of the Swope Music Building.
The IT Infrastructure Services department manages the underlying infrastructure that provides computing and communications services across campus. Reporting to the Information Services CIO and supervised by the Executive Director of IT Infrastructure Services, the IT Infrastructure Services department is broken down into 4 functional service areas: Networking (LAN, wireless and Internet);
All WCU Student Health Services remain fully operational, and have incorporated more telehealth for ultimate student choice and convenience. Student Health Services is available for telehealth visits and select in-person visits. Please bring your mask or a facial covering as it will be required to be worn throughout your visit.

The University's professional education programs are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). Recognized education programs are accredited by an additional nine organizations.
