Universidade NOVA de Lisboa was founded on the 11th of August 1973, and is the youngest of Lisbon’s three state Universities. During its first years, the University cantered its offerings mainly on graduate and specialist programs, but since the end of 1977 NOVA has been steadily expanding its offerings.
Research at NOVA has been growing and developing, both at quantitative and qualitative levels. Universidade NOVA de Lisboa hosts 41 Research and Development Units (R&D Units), 15 of which are research partnerships between NOVA and other national institutions.
NOVA has been particularly focused on favoring the employability of its students of all study cycles. The university supports students from the first day and all along the way by giving them access to a set of tools and assisting them with the development of competences for an effective job search using NOVA’s Job Portal as well as benefiting from the career offices that exist in each school.
The Universidade Nova de Lisboa has several libraries, included in its schools, which are specialized in a wide variety of thematic fields,.
Together they offer a collection of over 307,000 printed books, 6,388 printed journal titles, over 18,000 e-journal titles, theses and dissertations, 26,300 ebooks and access to bibliographical, statistical and financial databases.
The Social Welfare Services of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (SASNOVA) provide students appointments in General Practice, Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology and Nutrition. Appointments are held at Campolide Campus (Alfredo de Sousa Hall of Residence).
At NOVA students have the opportunity of practicing competitive sports, participating in univeristy competitions of sports such as surf, korfball, tennis, padel, target archery, basketball and athletics.
Students’ associations represent the students of each school of NOVA University and are an essential part of the university life, actively promoting activities that vary from pedagogic and cultural events, sports practice and the provision of services to students.

As I am just beginning my Master's degree in Conservation and Restoration, it is still too early to fully evaluate my academic experience. However, my first impressions have been very positive. I was drawn to the program because of its strong balance between scientific knowledge and practical conservation training, as well as its interdisciplinary approach. At this stage, I cannot yet identify specific areas for improvement, as I have only recently started the program. I look forward to experiencing the courses, laboratories, and research environment over the coming months. Overall, I am excited to begin this journey and expect it to be a valuable opportunity for both my professional and personal development.
I attend a masters degree at this University. The professors are all very experienced in their areas of teaching, and thus, very good at teaching, and the lessons were the best. A ton of good computers at the campus. The administrative staff is always very kind and very helpful.
My overall experience was tremendous, from the support given by the school to the easy level of comprehension provided by the teachers I was able to master my courses with no complications. There were challenges along the way but with the right guidance I surpassed them all with merit. Even though the program itself has flaws and is dated, with the help of the student council at expressing our views there was improvement and new strategies of teaching were implemented.
