The University of Tampa

History

On Aug. 2, 1933, Tampa Junior College was transformed into The University of Tampa when its headquarters moved from the local high school to what is now known as Plant Hall. Leading the new institution was Frederic H. Spaulding, the former principal of Hillsborough High School and the man who had been the motivating force behind establishing the first university for Tampa’s high school graduates.

Education

A medium-sized private university, UT offers more than 200 academic programs taught by a faculty as passionate about students’ success as they are about their areas of expertise.

Research

The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) provides management information and analytical support to UT’s decision makers to aid in strategic planning, internal decision making and external accountability. Through collaborative leadership and guidance, the office provides a broad range of planning, research and assessment activities, including those that support student learning outcomes assessment, department/program review, and institutional and specialized accreditation.

Career

The Office of Career Services serves as a bridge between students' college experience and life after UT. Starting the first year at UT and continuing beyond graduation, we are here to help students explore who they are and their career options, connect their experience—whether it is academic, campus involvement and engagement, internships or work experience to careers or graduate school – and achieve their post-graduation goals.

Student services

Beginning with check-in and orientation, Office of International Programs staff assists international students with documentation, regulations, cultural adjustments, academic issues and other concerns.

Housing services

The University of Tampa provides many lifestyle options. Each building offers different floor plans. Most new students are expected to share rooms with at least one other student. Most singles are reserved for upper-class continuing students. Learning communities provide opportunities for students to live together based on similar interests.

All student rooms are air-conditioned. Cable television is included in room rates. Each room is furnished with a bed (36-by-80 inches), desk, chair, closet/wardrobe and dresser. Students living on campus have free internet access through Wi-Fi in their rooms. There are lounges, vending machines, laundry facilities, game rooms and study areas in all buildings.
