About

History

In September 1931,the University opened for its first session in Brown Hall as Ouachita Parish Junior College, which was operated as part of the Ouachita Parish School System. In 1934, Louisiana State University received authority from the State Legislature to operate the facilities of the University as Northeast Center of Louisiana State University.

Education

The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) is a comprehensive, state-funded institution of higher education that offers high quality educational and experiential opportunities to meet the academic, cultural, vocational, social, and personal needs of undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education students. ULM's mission is to "seek students who find value in our programs and prepare them to compete, succeed, and contribute in an ever-changing global society through a transformative education."

Research

The inaugural Student Research Symposium, held in the spring of 2001,featured the outstanding work of some 85 ULM students. The Student Research Symposium continues to grow and last year presentations were made by 100 students.

We encourage and invite our outstanding student-researchers who have participated in the Symposium in previous years to do so again this year.

Services

Student services

Student Affairs is excited about the diverse programs, services, and leadership opportunities we afford all students at ULM. With over 140 student organizations on campus, we are committed to actively engaging students in and outside the classroom.

Housing services

Living on campus at ULM offers a blend of housing options including apartments, suites and traditional style residence halls. Our all-inclusive room package (electric, water, Dish TV, high speed internet, and local phone service) plus the convenience of living on campus allows you to focus on what is important being part of a great university!

Library services

The Library has embarked on a very ambitious project. We are moving to become a digital library with only a few exceptions. The intention is that existing spaces for study and new spaces be equipped with the latest technology to promote active learning with spaces for group work and classroom and seminar presentations.

Medical services

The ULM Health Clinic offers basic family practice services as well as immunizations, laboratory services, flu clinics, prescription or medication pick up, and general health screenings to all ULM students and employees.
