On September 14, 1927, the Houston Public School Board agreed to fund the development of two junior colleges: one for whites and one for African-Americans. And so, with a loan from the Houston Public School Board of $2,800, the Colored Junior College was born in the summer of 1927 under the supervision of the Houston School District.

University Towers are two traditional dormitory-style towers designated for our first-time freshmen students. All bedrooms are shard for with two residents sharing a living space. Every room is fully-furnished with a twin bed, desk, chair, wardrobe closet for each resident.
University Courtyard and Tierwester Oaks are apartment-style properties designated for our upperclassmen students. Tierwester Oaks offers a 2-bedroom/2-bathroom and 4-bedroom/2bathroom option while University Courtyard offers only the 4-bedroom/2-bathroom option.
The TSU Library Learning Center empowers scholars by providing access to robust collections, qualified staff and innovative work spaces that advance teaching and learning and stimulate scholarship, community engagement, intellectual inquiry and civic discourse. Reviewed Spring, 2019.
