What began as a dream more than 136 years ago is today a living legacy of determination, commitment, and success.

Despite the differences in the constituencies that they serve, the commonality of all campuses lies in providing quality educational experiences that are affordable and accessible to all.

Research

The vision for research at Southern University and A&M College is to build and sustain an infrastructure that encourages greater participation by faculty in sponsored and elective research and related activities.

Career

We have a dedicated and experienced team of professionals serving the career development needs of students, corporate sponsors, and alumni. It is our philosophy that students should begin the career exploration process early in their academic careers. The Office of Career Services promotes teaching lifelong skills that assist students and alumni in identifying, researching, and developing career opportunities. We encourage our students to follow our comprehensive Four-Year Career Plan during their Southern University Experience.

Student services

The staff of the UCC realizes that the college years pose challenges and opportunities. The UCC mission is to provide a safe and confidential environment for students to explore and resolve social and personal issues and concerns that may affect their emotional functioning as well as hinder their academic matriculation.

Housing services

You will find that Residence Life staff - your RA, Hall Director, or any of us in the central office are here to help you make the most of your SU campus living experience.

Library services

The library at Southern University is first documented in a May 1, 1889 report requesting more books. After the institution moved from New Orleans to Scotlandville in 1914, the book collection was housed in a bookroom on the top floor of the Academic Building. At that time, the collection contained 2,800 volumes and 5,400 pamphlets, valued at $4,200.

ICT services

NSS works with system administrators, students, staff and faculty, to protect the SUBR network, as well as law enforcement entities, in response to security incidents.

Medical services

Southern University’s Student Health Center (SUSHC) is an ambulatory health care facility, which provides primary care for routine acute and chronic illnesses. The SUSHC offers allergy injections,  emergency contraception, treatment and screening for STDs, and women’s and men’s health care.

Campus life

Despite the differences in the constituencies that they serve, the commonality of all campuses lies in providing quality educational experiences that are affordable and accessible to all. Each of our campuses is deeply rooted in their respective communities and is responsive to regional intellectual, cultural, and labor needs by supporting economic and workforce development that bring benefits to the state and region.
