University of Moratuwa

History

The University of Moratuwa is an independent state university in Katubedda, Moratuwa, Sri Lanka overlooking the picturesque Bolgoda Lake. It was established as the University of Moratuwa (UoM), Sri Lanka on 22 December 1978 under the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 and operates under the general direction of the University Grants Commission.

Education

The University of Moratuwa has gained reputation as the overall best university in Sri Lanka today. In terms of education, the university strives to produce "world class graduates" in technological fields- who can gain admission easily to any postgraduate program of a reputed world class University and perform as good as any graduate from an internationally reputed University both in higher studies and practice.

Student services

The DAAD (Deutscher  Academischer  Austausch Dienst, German Academic Exchange Service)  is the world's largest funding organization for the international exchange of students & researchers which consist of regional offices funding for exchange programs all over the world. Dr. Manjula Mundakana, Senior Adviser for Consulate General for Germany in Bangalore, India and Mr. Jorn Rohde, German Ambassador for Sri Lanka, visited University of Moratuwa on 08thMarch 2017 as representatives of DAAD. 

Housing services

Several student hostels are available which are administrated by the University. Only the students who are in First Year and Final Year are eligible to get hostel facilities. First Year and Final Year students are equired to get more information from Wardens and SAR/Students Welfare for their eligibility.

Library services

Library, University of Moratuwa pioneered in delivering state of art facilities for its users to promote teaching, learning and research. Along with promoting e-resources and services, Library moved step further by organizing the Author Workshop with world renowned publisher Elsevier who brings ScieneDirect and Scopus to UoM.

ICT services

Centre for IT Services (CITeS) was founded in 2004. Dr. Shantha Fernando is the current Director and the in-charge of CITeS.

CITeS is responsible for the University IT Infrastructure which includes administration of university network backbone, general server administration and maintenance of common computing facilities.

Student clubs

Young Entrepreneur Sri Lanka (YESL) is a non-profit organization, financed by businesses, foundations and individuals, to educate and inspire young children from primary school through high school to value free enterprise, understand Business and Economics, to be self-dependant, be workforce ready, be job-creators instead of job-seekers.

Ministry of Higher Education has entered into a contract with Young Entrepreneurs Sri Lanka (YESL) to conduct an entrepreneurship program for 400 undergraduates at the University of Moratuwa.
