History

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) was officially launched on 13 August 2002 as a not-for-profit private university providing affordable quality education. It is established under the UTAR Education Foundation and registered under the Malaysian Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996. 

Education

The University currently offers more than 130 academic programmes from Foundation Studies to Bachelor's, Master’s, and PhD degrees in the fields of Accounting, Business and Economics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics and Process Management, Agriculture and Food Science, Arts, Social Sciences and Education, Creative Industries and Design, Engineering and Built Environment, Information and Communication Technology, Life and Physical Sciences, and Medicine and Health Sciences.  

Research

IPSR serves as a central coordinating body for all the postgraduate programmes pursued in the university. It is responsible for the promotion of all postgraduate programmes. It promotes the programmes by providing counselling on course-content, fees, entry requirements and financial aids. It provides the operational support by providing advice on admission and classes. 

Also, it maintains communication with relevant bodies and institutions. All these are done to ensure that the postgraduate programmes are well administered, monitored and assessed to provide the best possible postgraduate experience.

Career

Currently UTAR has 2 campuses, Kampar, Perak and Sungai Long, Selangor. In line with the University's rapid growth and expansion plans, we have immediate vacancies for highly motivated, committed & suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join our growing team of academics and administrative staff to be based in various campuses.

Student services

Officers from the Department of Student Affairs at the respective campuses are ready to assist students with information and advice on suitable accommodation based on one's personal budget and preference. 

Housing services

The Department of Student Affairs (DSA) has compiled a list of accommodation options within the vicinity of the campuses. This includes single and double-storey houses, flats, apartments and condominiums. DSA staff will assist the students in obtaining the above mentioned accommodation upon request. 

Library services

The UTAR Library was established simultaneously with the establishment of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in June 2002. It was originally housed in the PA Block, the former Star Building, Petaling Jaya. In 2003, the first branch library, the Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) Library was setup in the PC Block, Petaling Jaya Campus. 

ICT services

UTAR ITISC is responsible for developing ICT resources required by the University including the IT infrastructure and providing the technical supports for the information, communications and management needs of the administration, faculty and students in fulfilling the daily teaching, learning and research activities of the University.

Campus life

UTAR’s main campus in Kampar was built on a 1300-acre piece of land donated by the Perak State Government. It is located in the growing township of Bandar Barat Kampar in Perak. Strategically located off the North-South highway, Kampar Campus is 190 km from Kuala Lumpur which is slightly over two hours away from the city by car. The Campus welcomed its first intake of students in May 2007. 

The UTAR Sungai Long Campus located in Bandar Sungai Long, a main township in Kajang, Selangor, is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built campus. Its location within the Bandar Sungai Long residential township near Kuala Lumpur city provides the best of both worlds.

Sports facilities

Flanked by picturesque mountains, dotted with scenic lakes and located within a growing township, Kampar Campus offers a conducive and serene learning environment. This Campus features modern educational facilities and provides students with access to some of the latest learning technologies and research innovations. In addition, the Campus has facilities for sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and a gymnasium. The spacious campus grounds are also ideal for jogging and cycling. 

Student clubs

Over 87 clubs and societies have been formed by students.

UTAR added another feather to its cap when it was awarded the self-accreditation status by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) on 20 March 2017.
