History
Founded by the Vincentian Community in 1856, Niagara University is a private liberal arts university with a strong, values-based Catholic tradition. Its four academic divisions include the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, and Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Education
The various colleges offer courses and directed experiences which equip students for a wide variety of professions and other careers. A broadly based, integrated program of liberal arts and sciences courses, supported by an array of extracurricular activities chosen for the wide variety of their appeal, is designed to supply holistic education.
Research
The College of Arts and Sciences has striven to be a pioneer in fostering student research with faculty. Students in the college benefit from numerous opportunities to engage in collaborative research with their faculty.
Each year, a number of faculty co-author research papers and publications with students in professional journals. Many of our efforts to foster student-faculty collaborative research have brought us recognition.

Student services
The Division of Student Affairs seeks to enhance the Niagara University student experience by supporting the educational, Catholic and Vincentian mission of the university through diverse programs and services.
Guided by the university’s core values, Student Affairs administrators partner with students, faculty and staff to create a co-curricular and experiential learning environment that inspires a community of service learners. Informed by the university’s mission, the Student Affairs sector places an emphasis on respect and appreciation for others, promoting the rights and God-given dignity of every person.
Housing services
Niagara University has a responsibility to provide program access (including physical access, access to programs, services, activities, and instruction) to qualified students with disabilities.
This means that the University provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or auxiliary aids for individuals with disabilities upon request.
Reasonable accommodations may include providing printed materials in an alternative format, an interpreter, access to assistive technology, relocating services to accessible locations, and providing extended time on tests.
Library services
Niagara University library’s mission is to provide exceptional customer service while connecting people to resources that support inquiry, knowledge creation, and knowledge sharing. The library’s friendly and knowledgeable staff work tirelessly to provide help and support, not only to NU’s student base, but to faculty and staff, as well.
ICT services
The primary purpose of the ResNet is to support NU students in their academic needs. Excessive recreational or abusive use of the network can result in service being terminated. If a student’s computer appears to be hacked or shows symptoms of a virus that impacts the network, service will be terminated until that computer is verified to be clean.
Medical services
The healthcare system in the U.S. may be very different from that which is utilized in your country.
This means that a trip to the hospital can result in bills from one or more doctors, the hospital, the laboratory and/or any other parties that may be involved in care such as ambulances, paramedics or even helicopters for serious situations.

This site was designed to provide accurate and useful information about our beautiful campus. We invite the community to explore it and learn more about our campus, and we hope that members of the NU community will find this information useful as well.

During this very difficult and trying time we want to strongly encourage the Niagara University campus community to stay healthy and active. While this can be difficult without many of the resources that we have grown accustomed to, there are many ways that you can maintain a fitness routine from the comfort of your home. Below is a list of online resources to help you continue with your fitness journey as well as a link to the American Society for Nutrition, which will provide tips and ideas for healthy eating.
Student clubs
Niagara offers more than 100 student clubs and organizations. Whether it's the campus programming board, student government, Black Student Union, academic clubs or one of our many club sports that catches your interest, you'll find a variety of social, cultural, athletic, and educational student organizations to choose from at Niagara!
Accreditation is a voluntary, non-governmental peer review process overseen by the higher education community that aims to ensure academic quality and accountability and to encourage improvement.Niagara University is institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). In order to maintain accreditation, NU completes a comprehensive, retrospective Self-Study and hosts a team of reviewers from the MSCHE for a comprehensive site visit every eight years. NU recently received reaccreditation and will undergo its next self-study in 2024-25.
