About
History
In 1971, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi founded the University and developed Consciousness-Based education so students could gain deep self-knowledge while studying the academic field of their choosing.

Research
For over 50 years Maharishi International University has been the leading university and global research center for the advancement of consciousness and human potential through the Transcendental Meditation® technique and its positive effects.Transcendental Meditation has been proven uniquely effective through a vast body of scientific studies conducted by our leading researchers and more than 200 independent universities and research institutions. The results include long-lasting reductions in stress and sustained improvements in health.
Services
Housing services
MIU is dedicated to providing a comprehensive educational experience on campus. We encourage all students without dependents to live on campus so they may receive maximum benefit from university life. It was found in this 2016 study that students who lived on campus during their first year have a higher graduation rate than students who lived off campus. Eligible students who wish to live off campus are encouraged to live in Utopia Park, a 200-unit community just north of campus.

Campus life
Our 370-acre campus has 45 buildings including our net-positive Sustainable Living Center and a 60,000-square-foot recreation center.
The campus is located in Fairfield, Iowa, a vibrant community of 10,000 dedicated to sustainability, health, arts, and doing good things for the world. Fairfield was named Entrepreneurial Community of the Year by the State of Iowa and has garnered more than $200 million in locally invested venture capital.Sports facilities
The Grace Ananda Recreation Center is a 60,000-square-foot indoor facility, one of the largest indoor university sports facilities in the state of Iowa.
Student clubs
There are many opportunities to participate in a wide variety of student clubs and activities representing our students’ varied backgrounds, interests, and skills — including international student groups; sports, language, and dance clubs; and many others.
Accreditation
MIU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the accrediting agency for universities and colleges in the North Central region of the US. The Higher Learning Commission is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). MIU’s business programs are accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE).
