History
The school opened in 1898 under the guidance of a young educator and anthropologist, Dr. Edgar Lee Hewett, who was to take a prominent place in New Mexico history as founder of both the Museum of New Mexico and the Institute of American Archaeology in Santa Fe.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to attain an exceptional education by fostering creativity, critical thinking and research in the liberal arts, sciences, and professions within a diverse community.
Career
The Career Services Center helps students and alumni with career planning, including: gaining meaningful work experiences (internships) related to their majors; learning effective job search skills in marketing their education, classroom knowledge and skills, extra-curricular activities, work and volunteer experiences to world of work; and making connections with regional and global employers.

NMHU Housing provides a living environment for students that enhances student learning, personal growth, and academic success.
Library services
The New Mexico Highlands University Libraries support teaching, research, and community activities of New Mexico Highlands University. It acquires, preserves, and makes accessible scholarly materials that advance the curricular needs, intellectual pursuits, and personal enrichment of our University and community members.
ICT services
ITS provides enterprise level technology support to students, faculty, and staff to include office, classroom, and lab technology (PC, printer, telephone, projector, SmartBoard, etc), network, internet access, account access, Microsoft Office 365 email and the suite of Office products.
Medical services
The Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) is responsible for all safety related issues on campus that can potentially impact students, faculty, staff and/or visitors. The Office is also responsible for all fire suppression system management, maintenance, and inspections.
Campus life
The university is located in Las Vegas, New Mexico, a community which enjoys a rich southwest history teeming with fascinating legends and cultural overlays at the stunning juncture of the Great Plains and the Sangre de Cristo mountains, both of which offer outstanding opportunities for outdoor activities.
Accreditation
Effective August 31, 2016, New Mexico Highlands University was placed on probation by our accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

Challenging online msw
Online campus has great instructors and a quality accredited MSW program! I would tell students that the classes are challenging but fair professors who grade fairly. Projects are beneficial for learning and assist with learning all areas of social work. The generalist MSW program is a good way to be a well-rounded and informed social worker.
